Koeman Not Confident On Barkley

We've been saying these things for at least 2 seasons now. I like him a lot but there's only so long we can wait for it to actually happen.

At what point does a player stopped being talked off as 'potential' this or that, and instead becomes evaluated on what he shows on the pitch.

He's 24 now, played 178 games for us, 22 England senior caps, and played 4 full seasons as a starter...

Reminds me of an article i read the other year talking about will Walcott finally fulfil his potential - when he was 27 at the time

I'd imagine he's more frustrated than anyone.

It is happening, it has been happening. I agree that with his natural ability he should be doing more but our fans should try and support the players a bit more, you never know it could eh help.

Exactly, roll back 3 years and we all expected him to be a far better player then he has turned into, regardless of how or why but he really hasnt lived up to early expectations and really wont be missed

Yeh Yeh - just like all those that have had their heads turned before him?

He might push on - he might not - time will tell - doesn't mean your stupid if you are of the opinion he won't.

Some people think he isn't good enough for Everton and are almost happy to see him go. They are stupid.

What if Ross is just a late developer, and in his late 20s and early 30s is a superstar at passing, shooting and generally controlling the game - people like Modric, Xabi Alonso, Pirlo, got better with age.
What if he's just the type of guy who needs some TLC and time, and he'll come good in a year or two?
What if we just 'look after him' tell him to be patient and convince him that his performances don't deserve the pay he's asking for, but EFC is still the place for him?
What if the fans just also have patience in him? We always say we're a different club, and looking at our team, we have a surprisingly low turnover of players compared to others, we've got a lot of English and local players, and we tend to stick together.

Can't we just lay off Ross, have some patience, and let him stay and play for a few years? Get Rooney in, get a Sigurdsson or a crazy surprise signing a la Robinho at Man City (but a good one though) and let's just build the team around Holgate, Davies, D C-L, Dowell, Ross - we'll be ok!

Partly through patience. A lot of people see him as not developing as much as he should, being a local lad and blue, we want him to succeed more than others, but he has taken too long to take a further step. The fact that he seems to be 'standing up to' Koeman shows he may not have the will or desire to get there faster.

Maybe that just means they have higher standards than you as opposed to being stupid?

If he doesn't want to play for Everton then he absolutely is not good enough to be here regardless of ability or the much awaited potential.

Not done enough with his ability, mentally weak too. If he wants out then that's a real shame, but it's his loss not ours.
I'll meet you somewhere in the middle with that. Think our supporters could make anyone mentally weak, he doesn't try anything incase 40k people moan at him. Crowd influence has clearly affected his confidence which means performance levels drop.

I want him to sign and say challenge accepted. I still think he will and I for one would be glad.

Eh, his agent probably just told him to wait until the offseason. I can't really blame him if you look at some of the wages of part time players like Walcott that the rich clubs are paying.

Surely it's about playing week in, week out?

I base my opinion on watching a few Malaga games from La Liga. He links up from midfield with a number 9. I should imagine that we can make
our minds up if we watch Malaga and Real Madrid later today.

Just like Barkley. But better...Your point was that Barkley leaving would put off good players coming to EFC. Disagree. And I hope Sandro coming will be evidence of that.
Never said that mate and certainly didn't imply it. If you read my post again I said my concern was that we couldn't get the calibre of player needed to replace Barkley. I obviously rate the player higher than you do, but what we have is somebody tried and tested in the premier league, in the top 10 for assists and top 5 for chances created. Of those above him currently in the premier league there is only Sigurdsson who we could realistically attract to Everton, and we will have stiff competition for him I would imagine. Anybody else would come from outside the premier and therefore untested to a degree at this level. I look at Klaasen and see a lesser player than Barkley. Mertens has been mentioned but will cost a shedload and plenty of CL clubs will be looking at him. Tielemans looks as though the boat has sailed with that one. Plus just replacing barkley won't be enough. We need somebody else of the same calibre if we're to have the slightest chance of pushing for top 4. Your response of "just like Barkley, but better" doesn't cut it mate. Who are these players and how much will they cost and will they even want to come here?. These are the questions I would want answering.

As for Sandro, I see him as a replacement for Valencia/Kone, not Barkley. But what I've seen I like a lot and agree it would be brilliant business if we could get him to sign up, especially at the price being quoted.
