Knee-jerkers

Why, when we fail, ala, tonight, the recent derby, benfica away, do we fail in such glorious fashion?

I can take a beating as much as the next man but **** me, blood boiling is an understatment here:@.

Only an everton team can go from world beaters to clueless in grand style. I dont blame moyes, to do that we would have to ASSUME he instructed the players to play in a negative way. The blame lies solely on the 11 players that started that game. The ones i seen with my own eyes and dont have to assume played absolutely [Poor language removed]. 1st attempt at goal after 60th odd minutes sums it up.

Well Moyes set out the team to defend a lead, that is obvious. He's not clear of any kind of blame mate, you can't expect 5 attacking midfielders to defend. The difference on Saturday is that we were attacking.

By that I mean he instructed the 5 midfielders to defend and lie deep, rather than using their pace to attack.

Well he said in his post match interview that the plan was to get an early goal, doesnt sound like we set out to defend, but theres not much hope of attacking when international players cant pass or control 5 yard passes, hence the inevitable defending. I like billy, but my god, have you seen a worse display in a long time?

That's what he said to the media, but doesn't mean that's what he said to the players.

The short game is worrying isn't it.

As for Billy, not going to give up on him yet. He clearly has talent.

If you want to look at another example, Kaka is coming under massive criticism in Madrid.

Need to give Billy the season and then see how he evolves.

the midfield had to sit because they had pace up front that if we allowed space behind then senderos would've been raped. If the defence would have sat back and the midfield not followed there would have been acres to move around in in fron tof the back 4. Without wanting to sound like making excuses, our lack of first choice players has cost us. How any games have our two centre backs played this season? How many of those did they play together? Once we were in the situation where our attacking midfileders couldn't go forward and support saha, we were playing a dangerous game of seeign if the defence could withstand the pressure.

Excuses. We lost to an inferior side. Why? who ******* knows. It's disappointing.

Thats part of my original point, we will never know what the players were told before the game, however we do know, that whatever they were told to do, they ****ed it up big style with a totally inept performance.

As for billy, i honestly do like him and think his displays will be better and more consistent next season after he gets a moyes pre-season under his belt, but he was dreadfull tonight

As were most of the team.

In all honesty...

...I wasn't real upset we lost. Can't tell you why other than that I don't expect much out of Everton in European competition. Since I've been supporting the club (11 years), we just haven't done real well when in Europe.

Yeah I wish we had done better and yeah I wish we hadn't dug a hole for ourselves in the first leg but that's just how it goes and I'm over it.

Time to look ahead towards Spurs.

Perspective.

Let's have some of that here. I have been watching Everton since LD came. There have been some GREAT games! Beating Chelsea, top of the table and MU in 2nd. What went wrong today?

Who knows, it is a team and one that has their ups and downs, LIKE ALL teams! AND, the fans? In love on Saturday and in hate on Thursday. I guess that is why I like you so much. You are nonsenscial, but then so is life and sport at times.

What about the Chelsea fans? Chelsea is still the same team and so is MU, all it says is that all teams are like people, fallible. Everton beating them does not mean the end of the road, just a bump. Everton is on an upward projection, and like the others, hit a bump.

Everton has the ability to beat anyone, and then suk. So does every team! BUT, Everton has had, since I have been watching, only a few below par games. Most have been above level and pretty consistant. So they had a bad game. Really bad game, ALL teams do. Even great ones, which I think Everton is in the longggggg process of becoming.

Look at the Confederation Cup. The US, who sometimes looks like they could not beat a youth recreation soccer team, goes out and beats Spain, and then leads Brazil, for a while......Did Spain all of a sudden think that their team sucked because they lost to the US? Probably not, they were disappointed but, they probably regarded it a fluke. The team, their team, like all others, was fallible on that day. So today was a fluke. A cluster fu@#$ so to speak.

I think it is why fans follow and love their teams. They have high, highs and low, lows. The teams succeed beyond the fans expectations and then they fail beyond expectations. I think the future is bright, BUT again, there will ALWAYS be downs. That is what makes the ups so incredible!

Take a deep breathe and then walk forward. Hope for the best in the future, and know that while a lot of Everton hearts were sad today, and the team was disappointing, the team is not, and you are not alone in your disappointment.....as that song goes. It is a long walk up and one that will always have a few bumps. This was a bump nothing more or less. Next game they will be better and the one after, I think.

Lets take the postives out of this
1 Jags is back
2 I dont have to go to anulfield again this season
3 We cant and will not play like that at Spurs
4 Arteta has another game under his belt
5 I only watched it on the tv

Yes we are out of Europe without a whimper. Yes I am mad.

But I am thankful for one thing.

The knee-jerk reactions.

We are so bi-polar it almost isn't funny (but thankfully it is). We are now back to being terrible players who couldn't cut it in a Sunday league after being potential league winners after seeing off Man U and Chelski.

Thanks for all the laughs you guys are giving me.

I want to quote the Pixar movie Ratatouille.....the critic, Anton Ego says:

"Since you're all out of perspective and no one else seems to have it in this BLOODY TOWN, I'll make you a deal. You provide the food, I'll provide the perspective."

You guys would do well to get some of that tonight.

Ban him NOW!

I'm putting it all down to a lack of experience from the players and the manager.

A lack of experience of being in a position of leading a euro tie 2-1 and having to go to a place like Lisbon, and play a team of Euro types who love to pass/move and play their fancy stuff through the middle.

We just got deeper, and deeper as the game went on, watching it...I just kept thinking it was just a matter of time till they scored.

The team looked [Poor language removed] scared out there....no confidence, which is really strange, considering our recent results.

But experience breeds experience, we have to keep qualifying and playing in Europe to gain that, and one day we will play a tie against a benfica, or a Sporting, or a Villareal level of team, and we'll win it..

Then we move to the next level. Im not unduly concerned about the performance last night, just slightly puzzled, and trying to make some sense of it all
