I'm split on this.
I think if he wants to go, for whatever reason ambition, money or some other excuse, then he should have put his request in earlier. But let him go and get the most we can.

If he put in a verbal request as suggested more than a week ago why haven't we put a replacement in place knowing that a written request would be here sooner or later.

So I think both sides are at fault and thats why we have ended up with this situation.

I was on a city fan site yesterday and today and they were ****ging him off saying lots of personal things about scars etc. I see we have this site lowered ourselves to their level by some of the previous comments.

Still looking forward to Saturday 1 player doesn't make a team so I for one will be getting behind the TEAM.

The Transfer window doesn't close for another 3 weeks.

But the season starts on Saturday. If we let Lescott go now, we're ******* ourselves over. We somehow need someone to come in to replace Lescott, not just anyone but a worthy replacement! We then need them to settle in immediately, be match fit immediately, play well immediately! Can't see it happeneing.

Yes, but you can still sign someone after the start of the season. Just like we did last year.
Is it possible? yes, obviously. Is it ideal preparation? no.

Like I said, I think Moyes will only allow Lescott to leave once a replacement has already been signed. And it'll take 6 months for any replacement to come in and fit into our system, so it's a moot point if we are 4 days or 4 weeks away from the new season.

Time to be cool, about this its a game of brinkmanship from this point onwards.

If he stays it has to be right for the squad, if he goes it MUST be at a premium.

I do blame Lescott for the timing of this im not lived but i am angry that he sees MAn City as a step up in progress, i think he is wrong. Additionaly four days before the start of the season isnt fair in the sense we gave hiom a chance, supported him and turned him into a great player - the club doesnt deserve the timing of this request. Lastly if i was Arsenal negotiating a deal for a the sale of a centre half to Everton now i would be rubbing my hands togehter their negotiating stance has just seriously imporved.

I would be tempted to still keep him - i think Moyes is bloody minded enough. Coll heads are needed to get the best out of this for Everton.

FFS we have done this to death. Everton are not a big club, there fan base is midtable at best and they have one of the worst grounds in the league. They are based in a declining city and it could be argued they will have to move out of there to get the new stadium they so desperately need.

Hahahahaha!!! That's Man City fans for you on Blue Moon Forums.

He did make a good point below though...

Lescott really is an idiot leaving it this long, he should have done this 2 weeks ago and really started agitating in the press. Hes left it so late going to make it very difficult to get the deal done as Everton now have little time to get in replacements.

So what you're saying is, either way we're ****ed. At least for the start of the season.

Alera is a first class prat and is on my ignore list on the mooners forum .

We need Lescott against Arsenal . After that , we can get by for a few weeeks .
I'm very surprised the OS has gone public with his request at this stage as they've just put any Everton transfer targets prices up .

They really are a thick bunch at times .

Seriously lads this is done. We better get cracking on sizing up replacements which other teams now will be elevating the price not a comfortable proposition for the Moyes war room. We have to hope Moyes is a great poker player and this has played into his hands.

What's Lescott going to do if Moyes doesn't let him leave? I can't see him doing anything other than getting his head down and accepting he is an Everton player. He won't let his teamates or himself down by putting in poor performances. He won't go on strike or anything.

All I'm saying is, your getting booed to fcuk on Saturday you ungrateful little tw@.

I told you ALL he would hand in a transfer request, it was so obvious he wanted to leave the club.

Sell him now Moyesy, we don't care if you've said no one is going, circumstances have changed. Time to offload this Judas c**t.

I'm confident that Joleon Lescott will still be an Everton player this season, Moyes just won't let him go, it's as simple as that.

If we sell Lescott that leaves Moyes with 20 odd says to get 5-6 players in. It's hard enough getting players in as it is, Moyes won't risk that.

Lescott will probably leave next summer, a similar situation to Barry and Villa last season. Moyes knows Lescott will give his all, the lad wants to go to the World cup with England.

Can't blame him for seeing Manchester City as a better option, most non Evertonians would to be honest. It's disappointing to see him handing in a transfer request so close to the season though.

You say it as if it's a good thing. I don't want players at our club who don't want to play for us.

Time to let him go. I don't care if we have Senderos next to Yobo - anyone but Lescott.

I'm fuming off this arrogant little waster.

Ah but this just made every press conference so easy from here on "We wanted to buy the players, we put bids in but everyones prices were outrageously high."

Just because he sees a career opportunity (in the form of an extra £1m after tax per annum) in a move to City doesn't mean he wouldn't be happy with still being at Everton for the rest of his playing days. Not everything is black and white.
