The press have hit a new low with their lies. Nice way to fire things up before the wknd

New contract and 60m buyout should suffice. Rather he went to real and barca than Chelsea or Utd

Whatever we do we can't allow him to go in January.

I don't think we can put in a release clause with the Euros coming up. If he performs brilliantly from now till then and then has a good tournament the fee could look like a pittance.

A personal guarantee from Martinez that we won't hold on to him at all costs next summer and a pay rise is about all we can offer him at this stage.

Promises have been made to many a footballer then the manager changes, the chairman changes unless it's written , and even then some will do all they can to deny its existence.

The story being touted is the obvious response by the player and the club.

Release clauses are differnt beasts in English football to what exist in Spainwhere the clause in effect is the sum the player himself will pay the club to be released from their contract.

The offer of a new contract is to be expected but the talk about a sum of £30 whatever million being in any contract would be more about once that sum has been met the player would be able to talk to a club not the sum guaranteed .Therin lies the problem , any remember a chap that liked flesh from across the park?

If he wants a release clause in a new contract then he wants out. Simply tell him he can have a pay rise but no release clause...or he stays on current deal and club decides price. At the end of the day the club comes first

Exactly this. Where would the benefit for Everton be with a release clause like that? £40m, you're kidding right. If there was a release clause to be added, it should start somewhere in the £60m region. If not, just let him stay on his current wages and cash in on him in one or two years.

Why would Stones (or his Agent) want to limit the sale price that low?
Would have thought his agent would be pushing for a much higher buy-out as they know someone will eventually pay it.
Setting it at £38M-£40M would just means he'd be snapped up as soon as the next window opens, what's the point of a pay increase for three months?

We'd have sold him at the last offer Chelsea made if they made it earlier.

But, by then we couldn't spend the money as wanted. It also become a matter of principle at that point.

Will it? I think Chelsea offered that because they started to get desperate. We are still talking about a 21 year old CB who has never started in that position for his country.

I think there's a good chance that if Chelsea come back in then they will come in for less and hope Stones makes more of a fuss so they get him for cheaper. In a way this buy out would be if true an insurance policy so that won't happen especially in the middle of the season.

I think Man Utd/City and others were certainly interested but respected our Club when it said he wasn't for sale.
If the Club get to the point where they would accept the sale then I imagine the other clubs will be informed that we will entertain bids. Chelsea were only setting the bid price because they were the only ones bidding. When others are involved we'll see a better price.
He's not going to go down in value in the next 6-7 years

How quickly Mori adapts and just how impressive he looks combined with Brwning and more likely galloway's development will dictate if we sell him in Jan or the summer IMO, also probably that fabled number ten availability in January will have a huge bearing on if he stays or goes as can see a sale to fund Martinez getting the target he wants if they become available.

Hope we tell all bidders to f' off myself like

I think Chelsea were the only ones bidding because the other clubs knew we valued him above what they would have paid.

Ottamendi went for less than 35m. Utd have Smalling and Jones. Arsenal and Spurs are unlikely to spend that big and he's virtually unknown in Europe.

Realistically Chelsea are the only ones who will offer close to that price at least for the next couple of years until he establishes himself more. The release clause makes sense but we need to avoid losing him in January.

If Stones is still letting his agent be aggressive regarding a transfer/clause, he can go in January for a good price (>40mil) imo, early in the window. I think his agent is keen on a Chelsea move for some sort of kick-back, we need to make it an open auction and not play to Chelski's tune.

The problem is if we insert a buy out clause is that it can be met in January, then hes off.

Reports saying Stones camp want to set the amount of it...but it doesnt work like that...if they push too low release clause we always can pull the new contract off. Then we can lift the price where ever we want. If the release clause will be made it will be satisfying for everton make no mistake.

What ever happends in future.... We've already won the battle.
