David Luis went for £50m yes, I know. Rio Ferdinand went for £30m 10 years ago.

Luke Shaw went for £27m, which is nowhere near this £38m fee.

So we have two defenders in the history of football with an equivalent or more price. This doesn't tally up with being "incredibly cheap".

We can say we don't want to sell him, which of course I agree with. However we should not be daft, £38m is a huge transfer fee.

Even in this era of TV money, name me the defenders that has gone for an equivalent price, or more.

There are very few defenders with Stones' potential..hence the media-fest all summer.

If he continues on his current path then the likes of City will be interested...do you really think they would baulk at any price?

Again, I don't want to sell him...but I do want what's best for Everton FC...and keeping him is currently that

John stones value is far more than the prices mentioned.

I could be wrong but is he the first player chelsea wanted but couldnt sign? normally they get their man but i cant think of another that they threw money at and didnt sign in the end.

That will surely add more value onto his eventual transfer fee as if we turned down 30 odd then we wont sell for that in the future surely?

Thats €50m not £ don't confuse the two, massive massive difference. Works out about £36m/£35m.
think your the one confused mate, it was 50m quid

Paris Saint-Germain defender David Luiz has said he believes he is now worth more than 50 million pounds.

The Brazil international -- who joined the Ligue 1 champions from Chelsea for that amount in the summer -- is preparing to face his old club in the Champions League at the Parc des Princes on Tuesday night.

The size of the fee, a world record for a defender, raised some eyebrows -- but Luiz feels he has offered PSG value for money.

And the London Evening Standard quoted him as saying: "I think and I hope I am valued at more than 50 million pounds.

"Football is a business. You have these kinds of things. It's not for me to talk about the price. I just need to show my football every day and do my job for the club."

Modric, Rooney, Gerrard..

Uh oh....

Roberto Martinez says the timing of Chelsea’s bids for John Stones scuppered any chance of a sale.
Jose Mourinho’s first move for Stones came three weeks before the start of the season, and Martinez said the lack of time to find a replacement was one of the factors ensuring there was no prospect of Everton doing any business.

I'm expecting him gone in January now........

No worries mate, it was a absolutely obscene amount of money to pay for sideshow bob being honest
No it wasn't. It was more like £40m. Some idiot claimed he went for £50m and everyone ran with it despite credible sources like Sky Sports & L'Equipe suggesting otherwise.

And obscene money or not every single Chelsea fan wants him back in the team. It was incredibly daft of the club to let him leave. He's better than every defender at the club bar Azpilicueta.

Which is one of the things that was so odd about their approach.

Mourinho had apparently told them in April who he wanted and like most managers prefers to have players in for preseason, the previous year they signed their key targets by July, the clubs had a good relationship with Chelsea even having some young players we might have wanted on loan and it was obvious we needed replacements as we only had two CBs.
