Confirmed bid? They may well have made one, two, three bids but the value of those bids I don't think have ever been confirmed by either club
Ah, finally think I see where you are coming from now - you don't believe we turned down 30m in the first place despite that being what people with decent sources in both teams reported.

All that is way too vague and conspiratorial for me but each to his own.

The reason I can't help but feel that he will not be at Everton come seasons end is that there is a certain inevitability about things and he clearly is going to become a player who is destined for the top and despite this long contract he will know, his agent will know, Everton will know, indeed all supporters will know he won't win the type of things that are out there playing at Everton. A new contract may settle things in the short term but part of any negotiation will be about future suitors

That's really harsh I know but his earnings potential is way above anything on offer at Everton.CL in all likelihood won't be available at Everton, and based on recent history it's unlikely his trophy cabinet will need upgrading unless he moves on.

The story I was told was that the transfer was going to happen but the deal was derailed . Make what you want of that.

People keep talking about the Euros almost as if it's going to be the pinacle of his career but he will be looking way past that . He isn't guaranteed to be in any starting eleven nor in truth is it certain he will be in the squad at that tourament.

I have no doubt that RM wants to keep him nor do I doubt that BK is of like mind but both of them are realists and will know that in football there is very limited loyalty . Football is about the here and now . You often hear about 5 year plans but the truth is they never in reality get delivered.

Berahino will be gone once a bid comes in for him that matches WBA valuation the reason he didn't go the last window was more about Levy as opposed to taking a stand

Be under no illusion that clubs will already be setting their targets for both the next and indeed subsequent transfer windows . Stones is destined for the top and without the huge investment needed to take Everton to the next level he will be gone.

Are you actually saying John stones is not certain of a place in the squad. He will definitely be in the squad how you can think differently is quite confusing. Usually 4-5 centre backs go. Who getting ahead of him? Cahill? smalling? Jones? Jags?

Personally I would , if I were making the selection , take Stones for not only a place in the squad but also alongside a.n.other as a starter but I am not the one making the selections.

Cahill I suspect has already packed his bags and passport. Smalling seems to be a RH favourite so is another who barring injury will be off to France

Phil Jones is a player that RH likes he has played he in a multitude of positions , including a midfield role. So if he is comfortable with his other selections by selecting Jones.

jags is interesting and it will depend how his season goes but again I suspect that Hodgsons fall back position is always based on loyalty and based on past squads RH seems to keep picking experienced players till they call it a day themselves. The only example of real note that I can find where he didn't quite follow that route was the last World Cup where he didn't select Ashley Cole

I have no doubt that Stones will make the initial squad which is usually about 28 in number but for me it's whether or not Hodgson goes with 5 CD, which I doubt, or if he goes with 4 it's which of Jags or Jones fails to go.

Oh and in there we have the horror of injury which is a vast unknown.

I'm agree he is unlikely to be here past September next year although stranger things have happended.

I just don't think he will be going in January (which is the part of your initial post I was questioning) short of a significantly increased bid by Chelsea as can't see any disadvantages to either Everton or Stones in waiting until the summer window when there could well be other parties interested. A January move is only likely to be beneficial to Chelsea imo.

I also don't quite understand how you can state Stones is due to get to the very top but equally believe we won't get more than 35m for him.

Personally think he will stay next season as genuinely think we will get 4th this season legs, chelsea on saturday is gonna be the start of a very impressive run of results

Everton will offer John Stones a new contract - but he will only sign it if there is an escape clause included. England defender Stones was involved in the transfer saga of the summer as Chelsea had four bids turned down for him. The 21-year-old put in a transfer request and wanted to leave, but the Toffees turned down a final £37million offer from Stamford Bridge - and now hope he will do a U-turn and sign a fresh deal.

Stones is the most sought-after defender in the Premier League and Chelsea will come back with another offer in January.
Former Barnsley starlet Stones signed a new five-year deal just last summer but Everton realise they have a prize asset and want to keep him happy with a pay-rise to reflect his growing value and reputation.

But the only way he will put pen to paper is if he gets a guarantee of a fixed buy-out clause which would enable him to quit Goodison Park. Stones will want to be able to leave for the same money as Chelsea's last offer of £37m - otherwise he won't sign and will agitate to move again, either in the January window or at the end of the season.

Oh "they" hate Everton having the power here don't "they"...
