John Stones transfer saga

i don't think what we say matters. we can say "he's not for sale" all we like, but if they offered £100m tomorrow we HAVE to sell imo. we could massively improve with something like that.
Agree but Chelsea have invested quite a lot of effort to move away from the tag of a rich club that just throws cash around, in recent years both their sales and buys have been very smart financially.

At least so far it looks like Martinez is prepared to say "no sale" unless a high bid comes in and rather than do that Chelsea seem to be hoping to pressure John into asking for the move by putting in a transfer request.

i still think Mourinho will also go nowhere near a valuation that would tempt us because he is not that serious about knowing exactly what Stones future would be there. Him and united's manager are all about delivering short term success and stones isn't providing that. I think more and more this is all just about waving his men's bits at other managers

It's amusing how expressing an opinion is considered as 'moaning' by a moderator, in support of someone else who has told me to 'get a life.' All I did was express an opinion lads. I'm not actually selling John Stones to Chelsea. You can both breath again.

My point was that I think Bobby is posturing to maximise any potential sale. He was making it very clear that they'll have to pay mega money for him, and rightly so. He hyped him up, said he is not for sale, then turned around and said ultimately he doesn't know what will happen. It's all rhetoric.

This is win-win for us, and Bobby knows it.
There really is no need to be funny like that you know.

Relax.

In this day and age, every single player in the world has his price, so what is the actual value of a 'not for sale' notice?

Is any such statement from virtually any club in the world to be taken with a pinch of salt?

Still though, it has been stated he's not for sale, which is better than saying 'come and get him'.

I hope not since we are so close to the season starting, with a tough opening schedule and only have him and Jags that are experienced CBs. Any price would have to reflect that not just Stones's intrinsic value.

But as we saw with Lennon and this season with De Gea/Sterling if a player really wants to go then it can hard to keep them and ensure they maintain their standards. Was hugely impressed with Fellaini when his transfer saga was playing out as he kept quiet in the press and was good on the pitch.

simple confirmation bias.

Not sure what you mean by that but for clarity but I only quoted this part:

"There is nothing to make a decision on. There is no negotiation. There is no relationship between the clubs in terms of trying to find a deal.”

as it confirmed that as far as the manager is concerned there are no negotiations going on behind the scenes. This is a positive and for me it increases the likelihood of the player not being sold.

exactly, his valuation is not what he is worth to Mourinho but what he could be worth to us and that takes into account that we could end up this season with a CB pairing that doesn't work. so; writing off a season at least while we try to reorganise defensively, losing someone who could organise our defence for the next 10 plus years. losing a lad who has shown character to go with his ability, losing someone who clearly gets the way Martinez wants to play and can influence others, losing all potential marketing that a probable England captain brings in, losing the faith of fans who are excited about having a player who looks like he will be genuine world class. Lets say 200 million and a 60% cut of all future marketing money received for him, and I quite like the look of that lad Zouma too so throw him in

Correct. It was to be done it should have been done before a ball is kicked. The price should be going up by the day. The situation wouldn't be half as bad if we hadn't just lost 2 experienced CBs. These next 3 weeks are the worst part of the window. It's ridiculous that players can start the season at one club and 3 weeks later be playing at another.

don't know if this has been listed on here , but I watched it last night and thought others who haven't seen it might like it.
tbh it hints a lot at how well grounded the kid is , the team bond and martinez's methods and handling of the players.
