John Stones transfer saga

Correct. It was to be done it should have been done before a ball is kicked. The price should be going up by the day. The situation wouldn't be half as bad if we hadn't just lost 2 experienced CBs. These next 3 weeks are the worst part of the window. It's ridiculous that players can start the season at one club and 3 weeks later be playing at another.
This. Why can't they have the window open and close to coincide with the start of the league?

exactly, his valuation is not what he is worth to Mourinho but what he could be worth to us and that takes into account that we could end up this season with a CB pairing that doesn't work. so; writing off a season at least while we try to reorganise defensively, losing someone who could organise our defence for the next 10 plus years. losing a lad who has shown character to go with his ability, losing someone who clearly gets the way Martinez wants to play and can influence others, losing all potential marketing that a probable England captain brings in, losing the faith of fans who are excited about having a player who looks like he will be genuine world class. Lets say 200 million and a 60% cut of all future marketing money received for him, and I quite like the look of that lad Zouma too so throw him in
very good post, articulating qualitative worth vs the pure quantitative. Having said that, quantitative (i.e money) does talk and one of this club's shareholder need to inject some investment capital...I won't hold my breath.

sadly I think short term gain at the expense of investing in the future is still the way most businessmen think

The question Mourinho responded to was a nice neutral one along the lines of "Martinez complained about Terry when it was just one brief comment in over 2hours of interviews - how do you feel Jose?"

Jose Mourinho hit back with a thinly veiled attack on Roberto Martinez.MEverton boss Martinez accused Chelsea of being “disrespectful” in the way they are trying to lure John Stones to Stamford Bridge.

But Chelsea boss Mourinho, when quizzed on the remarks, said: “My feeling is just one and I'm not speaking about Everton or Stones. I'm just speaking in general. “If I could, I would speak with you once in a month. And there are other people in football who if they could they would have a press conference every day. And I don't want to say anything else.”

Everton unhappy that John Terry this week said that Stones could be his natural successor at Chelsea However, it is understood the Premier League feel no rules have been broken as Terry was merely answering a question.

Good things come in threes, so it would be great for it to be announced tomorrow morning that Stones has been offered and signed a new contract on improved terms and this can be put to bed once and for all. Or at least for another season.

not clear on what this question was but can't imagine it was so leading that he couldn't avoid implying Stones was as good as at Chelsea.. Mourinho again acting like a sociopath and deflecting any criticism by implying he is somehow a victim. Obviously worked out that the more nonsensical the statement the more the media can read between the lines and make up their own version of nonsense

tbh thought it an incredibly mild comeback by Jose's standards and not even objectionable - compared to the digs at benitez's weight or Wenger "specialist in failure" it could almost be considered friendly. Bit unusual as when one manager directly calls him out he often responds with far more enthusiasm to escalate the war of words.

Perhaps we'll hear more from the print media.
