John Stones transfer saga

That would surely require a large fee in the Sterling range to rush through a transfer this window? No?
The player has a long term contract and appears professional enough to still give it all here until sold, if that is his desire.
Like Martinez my crystal ball is a bit cloudy mate ;)

But we don't seem to be in an Arteta situation the banks demanding payment and nobody can claim we have prespent the money banking on a big payday so would like to think so.

Well earlier today Martinez was quoted in the Guardian talking about McCarthy, and he said this:

“He was a big investment from the Championship when we brought him in, we want the player to be happy, and we hope we will get the positive news over the next few days – on everyone; on any player that has been mentioned that could be leaving.”

I thought that was a bit of an odd comment. Maybe the club are hoping to offer Stones a new deal soon too.
Would seem the next logical step with a massive buyout clause, so next season when the real Big Clubs come calling its Win Win all around.

More likely Mirallas who has been sporadically mentioned in the press and who we've reportedly offered a new contract.

I guess that could possibly stretch to Stones too

Yeah Mirallas makes sense, but it's weird for Martinez to say something like that - specifying "any player that has been mentioned that could be leaving" - without meaning to include Stones, when he's the one most likely to leave.

It is something that he was rumoured to have done when at Barnsley - signed a new contract when he knew other teams were interested in him so that if he moved the club got the maximum amount (although 3m still seems daylight robbery even with a sell on clause). Will try and find the quote from the Barnsley fan

Edit This is all I could find in a quick search, perhaps @Magic BFC will be kind enough to explain the circumstances as I have a recollection that John went out of his way to get the very best deal he could

No he didn't he turn down moves and signed a contract extension with us. Then moved once he'd got everything out of playing with us that he could, he moved because he was too good for us and the league we was in

Stones is at the beginning of a long contract. As RM alluded too, Everton hold all of the aces here - it's no doubt why Chelsea have acted as they have.

I am thinking of having a good bet on City to win the league.

Chelsea are making themselves look both desperate and pathetic in their pursuit of Stones.

If they set so much importance in a raw kid barely out of his teens with Bout 30 odd PL starts to his name then there must be rotten in the state of west London.

Both quoting the same post...

Sums up the thread...f'ing comical.
And From the Shed end
"Player affected (head turned), refusing to answer whether Stones told him he wants to join us, gone from not for sale, to not for sale "but i wont be silly enough to say i know what will happen" you could be right, screw is being tightened"

We all interpret the same info differently, part of the joy of being human really. At least we'll all know one way or the other on September the 1st at the latest - at least for a few months ;)

Bingo...all of this is nonsense, we'll know soon enough. Feel sorry for John, though. Not his fault he's a classy baller and now he's got stuck in the middle of Chelsea's media-driven titfest. We've played it well though and I just hope the kid's bright enough to be able to step outside the bubble he's in right now and realise it's all good. He's not on a bad path that he somehow needs to escape from, just get on with it.

The anger of Martinez's response is probably based partly on that - not a pleasant situation to put any player in let alone a young one.

At least this way the focus of the media will be more on a Roberto/Mourinho spat rather than on John himself which was the problem with some of the previous coverage even when we tried to aboid talking about it.

That type of deflection is one that Jose himself is pretty good at so at least he should see some humour in it!

Doubt it, we've seen what he's like when he doesn't get his way...probably gonna' try to gouge out Bobby's eye.

Hope Geri scores the winner against them, assist from John...
