John Stones transfer saga

The only times I can recall mourinho being this public for a league transfer were for Gerrard and Rooney. The media pressure certainly worked with Gerrard in that he handed in the transfer request and came close to with Rooney although in the latter case United made it clear he wasn't for sale.

You'd think if we were willing to sell for 30m then a deal would have been done by now without the drama.

Yep I'm hoping he strikes out for a 3rd time and realises when he tries to go public with his mind games to sign players, it doesn't work.

On the plus side even the club driver that had up to 8 players wanting to get rid of Martinez didn't think Stones would force through a move ;)

Difficult situation for Stones to be in though - hopefully Baines can give him some advice on how to handle it as he was in a similar media tug of war recently.

Surprised at people buying the glossy message hook line and sinker. What I gather from that is Martinez is maximising the price of any possible sale.

He's embellished Stones' potential as possibly the best ever English centre half. Blue-tinted specs aside, that's a big claim. Then goes on about our strong financial position. In the next breath he's said he's not stupid enough to think we can hang on to him.

Sounds to me like he's making a sale.
Think you need to get a life fella.
What part of "Not for sale dont you understand"
Stop looking for summit that aint there.

Well given our current finances what do you think it means?

Remember we posted a profit last year..

I think it means that we don't need to sell to meet any outstanding financial obligation. As @the esk explained earlier the only question in this regard is how much debt the club are prepared to carry through the next financial year.

As there is no capital injection though, I think we may need to sell if we want to improve the squad with any sort of quality. So it comes down to whether or not you believe the squad needs strengthening. Maybe the board don't, but personally I do.

True LL, Baines was quite the gentleman where I think if Everton wanted the dollar he would have left but showed respect and then got a new deal which ties him to us until his end of days as a footballer I should imagine

I think more appropriate an argument in this case is " should well sell 1 absolute quality asset to fund 3 average footballers?" In this case I would rather keep the quality over the quantity, and go for a loan or two if we are skint.

Wouldn't disagree with you, but I suppose it depends on how much Martinez feels he needs these players and what quality they are.
