John Stones transfer saga

Yawn.

Dunno mate. Too busy fretting like a teenage Everton fan.

I'd be more inclined to agree with your dismissal of that if it didn't have the ring of truth but unfortunately, knowing that bloke as I do, just can't see why he'd make it up.

Aside from the fact he supports those Cockney scumbags, obviously.

There is literally no way I can see Everton selling a player like stones with 4 years on his contract for less than 40 million.

None at all.

Plus Martinez has made it clear.

Surprised at people buying the glossy message hook line and sinker. What I gather from that is Martinez is maximising the price of any possible sale.

He's embellished Stones' potential as possibly the best ever English centre half. Blue-tinted specs aside, that's a big claim. Then goes on about our strong financial position. In the next breath he's said he's not stupid enough to think we can hang on to him.

Sounds to me like he's making a sale.
How do you translate " There is no negotiation. There is no relationship between the clubs in terms of trying to find a deal.”
into "he's making a sale"?

Looking further at the comments Martinez has played a blinder.

Totally accused Chelsea of forging a campaign to deliberately unsettle a player.

Also sent a message to Stones that its not ultimately down to him.

Chelsea won't be happy about this lol Bobby isn't scared about saying it how it is.. I just wish he was the same post-match about our performances lol.

The club's done well with the situation.

Any player will be unsettled by the situation John Stones finds himself in.
One minute he is settled at Everton looking forward to the new season, the next he is on every news media reporting that he will be sold to Chelsea at various prices. There have been two definite bids that we know of and probably definite enquiries from others as well.
I am sure his agent would love the big payday a transfer would bring as well.

There is no point in saying it hasn't affected the player, but that doesn't mean the situation has changed and the player is for sale.
After Sept 2nd everything will settle back and the football will take over again. I think he will probably leave summer 2016.

Completely agree with you. I'd be appalled if we took anything under 40 for him. Don't want him to leave obviously but can't see the board turning down that.

Even if the conversation is roughly what was said, which I find unlikely but I don't know the guy so it might be genuine, couldn't it mean "we see Stones as the next Rio Ferdinand and he was worth 30m 12 years ago" ie you'll need to account for inflation in prices and pay what Rio would be worth in today's market?

Change that to £35m and you are right on the money.

It's up to Mourinho. Put up or shut up.

That's what I got from it too as I think 30 would be highly unlikely.

I would say that would be spot on LL. Coach to Martinez, saying to someone publicly "30m should do it" or saying to someone publicly "well 12 years ago Rio was worth 30m" and he could give a cheeky wink at the fella and drive off as if to say prices have gone up so Stones would cost a hell of a lot more.
