Jo - "I plan to stay for the long run"

I accept all of that, could have written it myself last year but we can't wait for him to come good one out of five games, Ossie is the same, both are not up to it as far as I'm concerned.............smaller squads need fewer shirkers, they stand out like sore arses

Its a cycle, he needs games to get goals, goals give players confidence, but his chances are limited, because rightly so, at the moment, Saha and Yak are ahead of him and hes not taking his chances when hes given them, because he lacks match sharpness.

Its going to be a problem all season I feel, all our strikers need to play and play every week and unless Moyes plays 3 strikers, which is never going to happen, somebody is always gonna miss out on getting that important game time in. Saha and Yak can handle it better, older heads, both aware of the talent they have, Jo will struggle I feel.

If Yakubu, who has only just returned from injury and is still to reach full match fitness, is ahead of Jo in the pecking order, then Jo has problems. Surely if Yak is prefered over him currently, then that must tell give you the picture.

Its cool, its win win for us. He's covered for a season with no transfer fee, if he delivers then nice one - we will probably not be able to afford him but he will have contributed, like last season.

If he doesnt then goes back and we have Saha/Yakubu anyway.

Good luck Jo lid.

Saha is the top dog at the moment, even Yak has to try and get a place over him IMO.

Yak and Saha are predators. Jo isnt, he's a support striker. He's also a player that isnt getting many minutes and is getting the odd start or 20minutes here or there. If Arteta was fit injecting creativity, I think Jo would be a great link up player to a Saha or Yak - good touch, good lay off, comfy on the ball, ghosts into space. He did that at CSKA with Wagner Love.

Lets not forget that apart from not having his shooting boot against Chelsea last season he was opening their back 4 up and could've bagged himself a double, so skill is there.

Problem is, is that he's not a physical player. He's not as lightweight as Osman like, but he doesnt like the rough and tumble. He can take it and can keep hold of a ball. But after a defender has pole axed him, instead of shaking it off it seems to effect him.

I like him. He's just got one foot and isnt much of a predator in front of goal. I think its not about if he's a good player, its whether he fits in the system we play. He'd be good in a 4-4-2, maybe even 4-3-3...we dont play that.

Yeah but Yak is Yak innit, he doesnt have to fight for his place, its the frigging Yak lid!

jo of course is not worth the 19 million city paid, but he has bags of ability. he is going to continue to improve and moyes should be able to do this. his attitude is spot on.

It's all about the money. He is a useful player, not an obvious starter, and a gamble, given he has certain abilities but also pretty clear deficiencies, some of which (weak shooting, being one-footed) aren't the sort of thing that ever really improves.

However, so many forwards flourish on decent movement, and Jo is certainly young enough to work on this and add a dimension to the attack that certainly Yakubu (with his regular sloping out wide to the touch line) won't. I'm not saying he's better than the Yak, just different, and variety of options builds a fine squad.

It all depends on how much he's going to cost and where we need to strengthen the most. I personally think our midfield is stella now, and we've brought in some decent defensive cover. Perhaps, as ever, it will be longterm injuries that determine whether we need to keep this lad or buy an emergency replacement elsewhere.

Jo aint the future for us...He's just so hit and miss, we need drive, guttural passion, unswerving commitment, belief, skill, pace, technique
in short we need Edin Dzecko

Too late, everyone knows about him, one of the top scorers (maybe top) in the Bundesliga last season. Scored against United, is one hell of a player and is still young.

We were linked to him in January, if we had money we should've gone for him.

However, this isn't FM, so...

daz mate its not his fault when we have an average of 20 to 30 long ball launching from the back in each half alone. Player like yobo who can chalk up 15 hoofball in a single match shoule be shot instead.
And yes i've counted all of them! Away game is worse and its no surprise he didnt score an away goal.

Daz4Matty and Axlswhk.

Two of my favorites from the old TW forum days.

But I digress.

I want Jo to stay because he wants to play for us. If he is happy to be our 3rd choice striker when everyones fit I am happy for him to stay.
