2025/26 Jarrad Branthwaite

b) - Moyes didn't want to sign a right back and insisted on playing our second best centre half at right back and our 4 choice centre back instead.
Or there were too many gaps in the squad to fill in one transfer window.
The main problem in the Summer was a chronic lack of creativity.
Largely addressed by the signings of KDH and Grealish, who unfortunately got injured.
The problem is zero strength in depth across the entire squad.
One Injury away from playing an inexperienced, promising youngster .
We need 3 or 4 top quality players to even think about Europe.

I thought he was imperious today. Just completely in control of every situation. And his distribution and ability to start attacks just add a different level to our play. We stopped moving the ball forward as soon as he went off. Genuinely a world class talent. Everything you need in a CB. Imagine him and Gueye playing together for England.

Nah I think that is simply untrue. Other teams don't seem to have that problem. Getting rid of Thelwell and losing Purdy before the summer window was bonkers. Moyes choose to approach the window in certain ways. He was happy to keep O'Brien at right back. There were glaring deficincies at both full back positions, Moyes failed to address them.

Annoying thing here is we actually do have a bit of strength in depth in midfield.
A bench full of them today whilst the starters were gasping for breath.

Sod’s Law that we find his hamstring is made of jelly once we had extended his contract. Hope the lad comes back, but he’s always going to be guarding that leg which is likely to impact his sprints etc. I don’t think it looks good personally, but hope I’m wrong.
Yeah, I love Branthwaite - one of the very few quality players we have - but I am distancing myself from my hopes for him now. I thought we could build a side around him, but the injuries are just too frequent and will likely leave mental scars as much as physical. As a club, we need to have a Plan B.

Other teams probably haven't been fighting relegation and spent zero money for 4 years.

I thought we would need to bring someone in to replace Michael Keane, but it's starting to look like we'll need cover for Jarrad Branthwaite. I'm wishing the guy a speedy recovery back to full fitness, but it's a concern that he's injured again.
