January Transfer Window 2026

The CEO was playing down making signings before the window opened. A decision has been taken either collectively, or by someone at the club, not to prioritise this window.
Which is the correct choice, in my opinion. However frustrating it is, the summer is an easier market with better value.

Try and do January business if it makes sense, but keep the powder dry for the summer if the market dictates it.

You do realise we’re 1 or 2 injuries away from having no first team full backs or wingers…how is beefing up the squad in any way a waste???

I can’t get my head round people giving up on the season in January
Patterson, Myko, Aznou, Dibling, McNeil and N'Diaye are our first team full-backs/wingers. That's more than 1 or 2 injuries.

We are well on course to achieve what you have to imagine was the preseason target of comfortable safety/mid-table, and potentially even Europe with a fair wind. Not signing anyone this window is not giving up on the season, it is merely a continuation of a plan that has worked satisfactorily so far.

FWIW I'd kill for a first team LB at least in this window, but I don't think we'll get anyone in and that's ok, assuming we reassess in the Summer and enact a new plan to bump us up the table that bit further. Beefing up the squad just because fans want shiny, new players to boo is potentially more harmful to long-term plans than doing nothing now.

They stated at the start they would only do the right deals, I'd rather we didn't get anyone in than buy players who aren't good enough.

I think it'll be another busy summer and for the first time in a very long time we should be ready early to get players in before preseason.

Also getting rid of 5-6 who aren't good enough
Yeah, we'd all like to sign transformative players to fire us into the Champions League this season, but that's incredibly hard.

There was a chance to break into that top 8 this season, that may well not be there next season.

I don’t think it was a huge ask to try and upgrade on Myko, Patterson or McNeil - all of whom will be playing lots of games til the end of the season.

I don’t really get the logic of anyone who thinks differently tbh.
There still is. I swear some people are acting like we're on the precipice of relegation again

I dont trust us to get recruitment right in either transfer window. We've needed full backs and goalscorers for multiple years and repeatedly fail to prioritise these positions.

And the job doesn't become any easier when you decide not to be active in 50% of transfer windows, and to do the bulk of your recruitment over a 2 week period at the end of August every year.

European football was a possibility at least this season. To decide to do nothing is a clear lack of ambition and urgency in my opinion.

McNeil and Mykolenko on that list 🤢 the fact is, Ndiaye gets injured and the quality of that list drops DRAMATICALLY. No pace, no end product at all. We are very much one or two injuries away from having no wingers and O’Brien back at right back.

Why are we acting like people want ‘shiny new players’ for the sake of it and not to address glaring weaknesses in the squad, as well as addressing the impact that several long term injuries have had and will have?

Again with the arbitrary timescales and rigid expectations, we’re 4 points off 5th but god forbid we try and keep pushing, the pre-season expectations won’t let us

Sick of hearing about the ‘long term future’ being a reason to not take a risk, like forever not being in Europe isn’t the biggest killer to progress long term itself. This absolute LIE about saving ourselves until summer to kick on. Wasn’t the reason we couldn’t get the players we wanted last summer due to lack of Europe? So we’re going to be in the exact situation again then, getting players way down the list that blow extremely hot and cold (more often cold). Then the same cycle of ‘wait and see’ starts anew
