January Transfer Window 2026

Yeah it's a bit weird how some people seem to think loans are completely free. If there's a player available for loan that we want in the long term then great, or if there's someone we think can make a huge difference between now and May that's fine, but I can't get my head round people wanting us to just bring in random players that even they themselves don't rate just because we're allowed to, when it could just be a complete waste of millions of pounds.
You do realise we’re 1 or 2 injuries away from having no first team full backs or wingers…how is beefing up the squad in any way a waste???

I can’t get my head round people giving up on the season in January

It’s almost like people want us to sign players for the sake of it.

Remember that January when we spent £47m on Tosun and Walcott?

*shudders
No way am I justifying those two wasters whatsoever , but they made a big difference that year especially Walcott.

Long term it set us back of course. I wouldn't be against low risk loans with those types of players for a short term impact .

Pure Champ Manager fantasy stuff, but list of free agents you know you'd consider for short deals if this was a PC game (which it's not):

Raheem Sterling (willing to reduce wages to £100k, knows the city!)
James Rodriguez (knows the club!)
Oxlade-Chamberlain (knows the city!)
Lorenzo Insigne
Jordan Amavi

loan fees are normally about 1-2 mil max in january unless you are chasing an elite player

1-2 mil in the prem league is chump change
Well ignoring the fact that ideally we would be chasing an elite player, or as close as we can get to it, i'm not sure how that challenges what I said? £2m fee, an average PL wage of £65k a week, agent fees etc and you're looking at £4m+. If you don't want us to have any loan spots free then that's £12m+ being spent. It's not negligible.

No we're not? Not any more so than anyone else at least. We have Patterson, Coleman, Mykolenko and Aznou as full backs plus others who can fill in if all 4 of them manage to get injured in the 15 games we have left.

Genuinely improving the squad isn't a waste. I'm not saying I don't want us to sign anyone, of course I do, I just want them to be good players who we've properly scouted and decided we actually want , and ideally who will be here for the long term. If we can get those players in today I'm absolutely all for it. What i'm specifically talking about (and thought I made relatively clear by literally saying it but I digress) is the idea of just bringing in random names seemingly just for the sake of it. There are loads of posts basically saying 'I know he's crap but what about...' which is just mad. I have no interest in us signing this season's version of King, or El Ghazi, or Traore, or Dele, or Mangala, or Senderos etc etc which is what loads of people are advocating. I would very much like us to sign good full backs but if the choice is to sign the ones we actually want in the summer or just make do with players we don't rate as highly now just to say that we did something then I would rather we wait for the summer. It really shouldn't be a controversial view I don't think.

You didn't enjoy watching Al-ghazi and Josh King put some quality time in on our bench when we brought them in on loan?... I feel we should utilize our loan spots but there should be as you say an intent to actually incorporate the player on the pitch rather than just bring bodies in , especially with moyes being particular on who he selects.

I think people want to temper their expectations of how great the summer window will be btw.

All this ‘let’s keep our powder dry and sign the players we really want’. The expectation that we’ll fix all the issues with the squad.

Let’s see how that goes.
Same as the last one all talk about getting a rb and well still have a lack a pace in the squad. Can understand some deals not getting done becuase of people overpaying this window but still feel everton could have got some to push us on to maybe get europe. Like the alcaraz deal last season
