Jags vs Neville - how to be an Everton Captain

Neville pretty much wrote the book on how not to be an Everton captain.

Those who "like" him fell for his self-serving, arse kissing antics hook, line and sinker.

I hope his like never stain the Goodison Park pitch in a home shirt ever again.

well, that's one way of putting it.

agreed.

Perhaps it's possible that Neville knew Moyes' limitations and was telling the truth, that top ten WAS the best we could look at achieving.

Neville was a good captain. I remember nearly every player we signed in their first interview would point out 'the skipper welcomed me in and made me feel at home'...doing the little things. He was a liability on the pitch most of the time...but he did the job of a skipper with class.

Neville gets far too much stick than he deserves IMO. Was a very good signing and captain AND had some very good moments in a blue shirt. I'll always respect a player who wants to move from the biggest club in England (who he supports) on big money, winning trophies because he doesn't want to sit on the bench collecting money and would rather go and try make a career for himself which he did here!

It's not his fault Moyes played him 12-18 months too long as a first team starter.

Jags is equally a boss captain too....Love jags!

For the record I thought Neville was a fine Captain. The handover should have happened 1 or 2 years sooner, but he was without question a very good captain.
Jags though- he's the best. I like that he's a bit more soft-spoken too. And I also like that the armband could conceivably be passed to about 8 of our starting 11 without me feeling the slightest tinge of concern.

Neville was a good captain in his early years, he was what we needed. For the last couple he wasn't as he got picked when he wasn't good enough to play but overall you can't say he was a bad one just because the manager had a blind spot for him.

Neville was captain for his Uber professionalism...not because of what he done on the pitch as his ability was severly limited.

I didnt mind him too much at first, then he just became Moyes stooge and i hated the b@stard.

When he said that about us I wanted to lynch him. The cheeky pr1ck interviewed for the Everton job!

Can you imagine that! Just sending all our best players down the M62 from ****ty little everton to a 'proper club' to develop their careers. Sends chills down my spine thinking about what might have happened had he got the job. Doesnt bear thinking about tbh

On the field well.. Neville stops playing and we start to win, Gareth Barry comes in to his spot and we stop losing.. go figure.

But Jags is both a top leader and a top player. Neville was being carried for a couple of seasons - but he was a good captain in all his time here.

It still makes me laugh that our standout worst player by a country mile was our captain for years. I always used to look at other clubs and wonder why nobody else gave the armband to their worst player.
