That's just it, Jews and Muslims are (on the whole) quite capable of living side by side with no drama whatsoever.

Absolutely. It's horrendous and because of our disgusting politics in the west nobody will properly call out Israel for being the cause of all this. They've treated the Palestinian people as sub human for decades. There is no defence to having not engaged in a two state policy. The whole pro Israel lobby is a disgrace

the US had spent much time attempting to goad the Japanese into an attack to create a casus belli, including the oil embargo which threatened the very existence of industrial Japan. It even moved the Pacific Fleet into harms way, moving it from the West Coast bases to Hawaii. At the same time, the US was actively engaging Germany in the Atlantic while also arming Britain and respecting the British blockade of Germany. As with WW1, the US elite wanted to go to war against the wishes of the American people and needed an excuse.

In the case of Israel, I think that the Palestinians may have seen that they were being baited and instead provided Israel with more than they can handle. From what I am seeing Israel is certainly losing the global propaganda war, and we will see if this escalates further. Gaza could always be a faint to get the Israeli forces south before the main event in the north.

Since 2008, 6000 Palestinian civilians have been killed by the IDF. Last Thursday 800 Israeli colonists stormed the Al-Aqsa Mosque complex under the protection of the Israeli Defence Force. Hamas launched Al-Asqa Flood Operation citing continued oppression and continual attacks on the Al-Asqa complex. Their audacious military operation, inside occupied Palestine has undoubtedly shocked Israelis, as has the capture of IDF soldiers and the barrage of rockets sent by Hamas. The Iron Dome air defence system didnt seem to stop the rocket attack.
I wonder what those IDF reservists who resigned, because of Netanyahu's Judiciary overhaul, will do now, when he asks them to go into Gaza. The IDF didn't fancy hand to hand combat in Beirut in 1982.
