Current Affairs Israel is an apartheid state

That's just it, Jews and Muslims are (on the whole) quite capable of living side by side with no drama whatsoever.

It's pricks higher up the food chain who believe their more important than their neighbors that cause the issue.
...it's just that the Arabs have to accept being second class citizens, as enshrined into Israeli state law.

Not exactly shangri-la is it...

Former Israel Defense Forces (IDF) international spokesperson Jonathan Conricus has summed up what this day means for Israel, calling in the
country's "Pearl Harbor" moment.

The key....

the US had spent much time attempting to goad the Japanese into an attack to create a casus belli, including the oil embargo which threatened the very existence of industrial Japan. It even moved the Pacific Fleet into harms way, moving it from the West Coast bases to Hawaii. At the same time, the US was actively engaging Germany in the Atlantic while also arming Britain and respecting the British blockade of Germany. As with WW1, the US elite wanted to go to war against the wishes of the American people and needed an excuse.

In the case of Israel, I think that the Palestinians may have seen that they were being baited and instead provided Israel with more than they can handle. From what I am seeing Israel is certainly losing the global propaganda war, and we will see if this escalates further. Gaza could always be a faint to get the Israeli forces south before the main event in the north.

Well, hopefully.

This is a particularly strange thing for you to say kev.

For a start, the Empire of Japan had spent nearly ten years invading or attempting to invade its neighbours, massacring Chinese in the tens of thousands, prior to Pearl Harbour. They’d encouraged their forces to see their enemies as less than human.

They weren’t forced into attacking Pearl Harbour, they were compelled to do it because they thought the Yank was going to interfere with their attempt to create a bunch of slave nations to supply the homeland. They’d tried to do something similar to the Soviets too in 1938, only to get smashed by Zhukov at Kharkiv-Gol.

Secondly I thought you were anti-Nazi, and yet here you are criticising the US for apparently getting into WW2 to fight the actual Nazis?

I think that’s what he meant dave
No mate. The inference as I read it was that it's possible for those two peoples to live side by side in peace...but they can't, not when one of those peoples are so obviously regarded as inferior. There'll always be conflict.

I don’t agree with your assertion that the Japanese weren’t provoked into it. The Americans were itching to get into conflict with Germany despite what their population felt. They made sure they got a reason.

I was simply conflating what’s happened in Israel as a possible parallel not saying any more than that. And I’m not the only one to suggest it.

I'm not gonna get into it with someone like Zat of all people, but if a country can shut down food, water, electricity and basic human rights at the flick of a switch on innocent women and children, and people can't find an issue with that then there's no point discussing it.

Because you would be wrong. Here is an easy to understand explanation.

They have the same rights in Israel dont they?

No, and no again - Kev simply chooses to die on whatever hill causes the most furore. As we both know, the US was inherently isolationist as a state.

The US only brought its forces in the east (well, to their west) to alert because of a belief that Japanese expansion could and would threaten the Philippines.

Likewise, Japan saw the attack on the US Pacific Fleet as a necessity to allow their expansion in South East Asia, with the belief the US and UK would work together.

Blaming the US for the war in the Far East is beyond the pale.

They are not and have never been isolationist. The complete opposite in fact. The population perhaps. The leadership has always been a different matter. Roosevelt was desperate to get involved and decided to turn a blind eye to the possibility of an attack.

The only ones who view them as 2nd class citizens are couples like Jeff and Dolly who until 3 months ago had lived their entire lives in Montana but decided to retire to Israel.

Arab Jews, Arab Muslims, Arab Christians....... It would be a bit tense, but not the bloodbath we have seen for the past few decades. (just a preview, by the way. Yesterday's attacks was the perfect excuse to try and obliterate Hamas and whoever else gets in the way once and for all)

But when the state classifies one as second class it doesn't matter if ordinary Jews and Arabs want to live side by side, they can't...not in peace anyway.
