Hamas knew what the Israeli reaction would be. They have taken a calculated risk. The international community has stood by and in some cases actively supported Israel in taking more and more territory and suppressing the Palestinians for many years. Sadly, the only way they have of getting their voice heard is to attack. The noise around a political solution and the injustices is now front and centre. Pity we couldn't have come to this without the need for such horrific violence.

Good to hear the growing calls world wide from countries to international organisations for Israel show restraint. No doubt in my mind they would have gone in on the ground now had they thought they could have gotten away with it. I'm sure even hear the meta data filters through to politicos..
