The entire situation is one huge horrific mess isn't it. People on all sides, all faiths and creeds getting totallly terrorised and screwed over. Let's hope the voices of the families of all affected are being listened to by the political class and traditional rulers.

Fully agree. Full scale wars and atrocities because a person or set of people believe another set are beneath them or that they shouldnt exist for some absolutely pathetic reason is unbelievable.

Imagine all that energy, passion, money and power was put into obtaining peace?

That article is immensely frustrating.

It seems Western governments are busily burning up all credibility, all diplomatic relationships, all the work put in over centuries to establish international law as a global concept. In return we are backing the worst government Israel has ever had in a doomed attempt to kill its way back into being the top dog in the region.

I am not happy to turn a blind eye to any abuse of Palestinians or Israelis. However people have been excusing Hamas basically saying that it was purely the fault of Israel that a terrorist group killed, mutilated and took as hostages men, women and children…which I think is offensive to ordinary people…..

Who has been doing that ?

I do know anyone who sympathised with what Hamas has done

People asking why don’t Arab states absorb the Palestinians?

Why should they ?

And..

Palestinians are themselves reluctant to leave as others have pointed out if they go to a refugee camp in a neighbouring Arab state they won’t be able to return.

History supports this as many refugees left in 1948 and never allowed to return. There are refugees living in camps in Jordan and Lebanon who still have keys to properties and deeds to houses from the Ottoman Empire days.

Arab states obviously wary of allowing Hamas militants into the countries and then try to debatable them too

There would be a lot more politicians being assassinated by extremists. Peace in our time is very unpopular unless you're attending a beauty contest, which says some unpleasant things about male standards of female attractiveness.

The necessary compromises for peace are even more unpopular, in this day and age. Like the ancient Greeks, our heroes are athletes who never back down in the face of adversity. That lot also fought a seemingly unending series of wars, and I don't think that's a coincidence.

It does feel like the world has been lurching backward for some time now. The general state of leadership globally is a farce and compromised and with all that is going on you have to wonder if there are any capable or willing to stand strong for people and planet.

It seems to have developed into a bit of a narrative now that if you worry about innocent Palestinians or criticise the Israeli governments reaction to the atrocity, you are a Hamas sympathiser or supporter. Appears to be a case of if you dont offer unconditional support to Israel, your a Hamas lover.

It's dangerous and doesnt help.
