Is Martinez our best signing this year?

I remember people thinking it was a coup when we hired Walter Smith ! Great appointment that turned out to be....

No, it's an end in and of itself. The FA Cup is a prestigious competition, one the elite clubs want and one we can conceivably win. I dont think that trophy or the LC should be viewed as a staging post to push on for other things.

I agree about the value of the Cup, but I'll respectfully disagree about the rest. Do players like Fellaini and Baines see Everton as an intermediate step towards the pinnacle of their career, or as a suitable destination for pursuing their highest goals? If RM and Everton are happy with the Cup only, these and others like them will feel that moving on is their best option.

Things could change for the better and the new style under Martinez could see us break into the top four with more retention of the ball and effective counter-attacking with pace in Kone, Mirallas and Deulofeu, or it could fall flat and disaster. Under Moyes we were making steady progress and I believe we were close with him in charge and would of pushed hard again this season albeit some of his tactics frustrated. At this moment I am slightly leaning towards wishing Moyes was still in charge, at the same time I believe Martinez is capable of taking us to the next level but frightened of Mike Walker shenanigans rearing their ugly heads again.

I disagree that Moyes was progressing. We had our best start for years last season and we were very hard to beat. What did it get us? Sixth place.

There's no room to break through the elite clubs, none at all. People can forget any Everton manager doing it under the present regime. So we may as well have a welcome change of style and a chance at a cup - which this manager has shown he can achieve.

Harsh, he needs more then one season to get it right, we could do with out fans like you mate.

We could do without fans like you, to be blunt. Fans who are so easily impressed with a guy who's just been relegated. Go back and read the clubs Motto. Think about it for a bit. Learn it, then consider, if finishing outside the top 8 is acceptable. Think again, then consider, is dropping down at least 3 places in the league acceptable? Is finishing below West Brom, or Swansea acceptable?

Please don't patronise me in future, when you are in a fan club, and carrying out like we've won a trophy for appointing a manager. We need more fans who aren't going to make excuse after excuse for failure. Fans who are going to demand the best. We need a few more like Big Neville Southall, who understood this club and it's fans to the core, it's ethos, it's will to win and be the best.

Please don't patronise me, or any other supporter who has the temerity to suggest we should continue to try and adhere to these high standards as not required. Frankly, we are what seperates this club from what it is today, and what people like you would have us become, another Wigan, Middlesborough, Blackburn also ran.

Our points tally improved last year. We were fairly stable in the top 7/8 teams year in year out. I do find it interesting though, that you castigated Moyes for his failure, yet you describe the same thing as impossible for Martinez.
Can we please end this "good football" nonsense. 700 passes between your back four and goalkeeper is not good football. Joe Allen is not the best midfielder in the world as he has the most passes. Kopites are truly ********s, who talk innate nonsense, about how possession football is automatically a more scientifically advanced game. Please don't turn us into those whoppers across the park, with the slavish devotion to the "good football" nonsense of Rodgers.

We are here to win games, not plaudits. Lets keep trying to do that, win more games than last year, increase our points total from say 63, to 66 by winning 1 more game, and we can finish in the top 4!

I suspect Martinez will be a lot closer to the School of Science way than Moyes ever was, other than a few flashes last season like.

Davek point is that we're not going to get 4th with Moyes or any other manager right now, and 6th under Moyes is not progressing the club right now, Moyes is a league manager and ALWAYS put the league first, an attribute Man u were after by the way. Davek is saying another manager who likes to attack and is not scared of the big boys might get us a cup win and we then enter Europe which will be progress.

Well nobody has argued against that mate. I have an issue with people turning around and saying the club can do without fans, for suggesting we should want to have a manager who finishes above the West Broms and Swansea's of this world. It's a disgusting statement on so many levels.

Lets hope Martinez is. If he is, we can finish above 6th, and we can elevate our league performance, just as Moyes did when he arrived. Given how poor Moyes allegedly was, that should be quite an easy task for Martinez

Taking a wait and see approach at the minute. But his positive demeanour and general enthusiasm is refreshing and its great to see All I know is there will be qiute a few stomach drop moments next season
