Is Martinez our best signing this year?

Sorry that's minus how much did you say?

Unless Robles was free, and Alkaraz didn't want a signing on fee you're looking at a lot more than £5mil. Pretty sure I read repeatedly Robles was 1.5.. That makes it 6.5.. in the positive column. Which is significantly better than losing players without replacement isn't it?
I know you hate him and can't stop trying to find any angle to slate the man, but lets not rewrite Moyes transfer funds as well as his ability.
Martinez has (hopefully) done well with what he's bought so far, but he's had more spending power than Moyes has enjoyed to do it so far.
I credit Moyes at every turn for the decent job he did and steadying influence he had. I just dont hero worship mediocrity like others do.

As for the figures: there's really nothing to back up the claim Martinez is being backed here. I think we all know we'll be getting Fellaini and maybe Heitinga off the books and it'll be a negative spend on players come end of August...dont put your house on that scenario not happening.

I wouldn't put my house on it happening either because.. until it happens, that highlighted bit is not actually true, we know nothing.

As for not accepting mediocrity, pretty sure that's the point I was posting, given that he's had funds and starts with a decent squad, the mediocrity of lower half finishes is not acceptable.

Moyes had spends when he started plus Wayne Rooney and all the assets to cash in, fair enough things improved and 4th appeared - but it never happened again and cosy settlement into league stability below that set in - some think it's marvelous others think meh.

Martinez is aiming to rectify this aiming to win something by playing football - but is cashing the Baines, Felli, Mirallas valuables to replace the asset, Rooney and loan monies the way to go?

The people at EFC can get funds together if they wish - they're all loaded - if they are giving Martinez some loot out their own pocket the question must be why wouldn't they back Moyes ?

You seem to be indicating its because Moyes can't be trusted to spend money, as opposed to a massively increased turnover due to the huge TV revenue. Is that right?
There's no money out of their own pocket don't be daft, its all coming from Everton and the reason we've got as much as we have is due to the league position you seem so complacent about and the aforementioned TV revenue.

I take it if we don't far exceed the meh-ness of Moyes league placings you'll be livid and demanding change? Or is it only meh when its Moyes doing it?

Will reserve judgement on him until later on in the season, the same as all the players.

As of right now, he is impressing me and could be the best signing for the club.

The level of myopia in this thread is unparalleled. Moyes done a very respectable job at this club, he achieved regular 6+ finishes and he greatly improved the talent pool on a contextual shoe string. Yes his football was hideous at most points, Yes he bottled it in 90% of the big games, and yes on a lot off occasions he was an absolute penis, but to refute his achievements while lamenting his flaws is absurdly partisan. I'm sure deep down a lot of us will be happy with the change of style, but will martinez emulate or better moyes' positions in the league? I have my reservations (wouldn't mind a cup though tbh). Not a Moyes ideologue just a realist.

He's saying the right things and I'm delighted with the transfers so far.

But it's far too early to tell whether he'll be a success, I am excited about the season though.

90% of the money are you having a laugh, the banks will take a bit for our debt payments - so get real of our financial situation!

No..you get real...all our repayments are made when due and our debt is controlled. Currently there is no reason for a bank or other financial institution to call in any extra money.

So you reckon Mirrallas, Baines and Fellaini will all be sold?

Ive been pondering the op point and what occurs to me is the simple question...were we ever playing like the school of science under dm ? Does what rm seems to be trying to create have the chance to let us live up to our title of school of science. ...well certainly more than mr moyes did so for that reason I am in
Wheres the moyes money bill ????

With benteke staying at villa and spurs no doubt will be buying a soldado type striker it was vital for RM to have brought in a quality striker which was the key ingredient of us missing top 4 last season. He instead brought in kone so for that reason no deulfou gets this award

When the chairman practically holds the door open for Fellaini at the new managers press conference then you can pretty much place Fellaini in the 'gone' column. It'll happen this window once minds are concentrated, no doubt about it in most people's view. Heitinga is barely here given what he's said, and he doesn't figure so far in Martinez's plan.

Martinez has had no war chest. There is no step change since Moyes left.

He's transforming the way we play - and I guarantee that won't be plain sailing. It's unreasonable to suggest he'll do better than Moyes in his first season.

Even if he gets the transition sorted by Christmas, which in all honesty I think is optimistic, we've still lost 4 months of the season to the process.

On top of all that, we still don't know if we're losing two of our best players this transfer window.

I'd absolutely love him to get us there, but you can't seriously have the expectation of a top-6 finish.

Why have a transition to make things worse? What sort of plan is that? I hope changes we make, lead to us improving our performance level, if not, it's a pointless change really.
