Current Affairs Irish Border and Brexit

This is not going to end nicely. Either there is a hard border between the north and south or between the island of Ireland and the rest of the UK. Whichever is picked is going to have consequences, both options could possibly bring down the government by the removal of support by the DUP and thus put brexit at risk anyhow. (does that then cause the leavers to riot and further the divide across the country?)

lol just had a vision of a cluster of old people moving very slowly through London with their Zimmer frames.

As I thought they'd do, the Tories have binned off Northern Ireland essentially and treated it as a separate entity to the UK in order to secure Brexit, so there will be a sea border with the 'actual' UK, which in the mind of the Tories is, of course, basically just the south of England.

I am not surprised.

Will be interesting if the DUP now seek to take down the government tho.

Election in February lol

Does may not realise that any decision to keep northern ireland within the eu wouod immediatly trigger scotland to want the same? Surely a political storm will follow if one country within the UK is treated differently to the rest?

So if Scotland don't get it, they revolt . If dup get it they revolt.

And the government stopped and didn't factor this into the decision making?!

what exactly is being proposed.
Northern Ireland will have the same regulations as the EU? And these regulations will be different to the rest of the UK? This would essentially mean the trade of goods and services would remain the same between RoI and NI, but what about NI and GB. Does it become harder for part of the UK to trade with the rest of the UK? and what about movement of people.
Does this deal mean NI is still part of the EU in all but name and the border is the Irish sea?

An economic United Ireland...hence the DUP unease.

Expect the SNP to use any special trading status for N.I. as a demand for the same for Scotland.

They've painted themselves into a corner already - any special trading status for NI is the de facto normal trading status for everyone else in the UK. May has - sensibly - surrendered the idea of a hard Brexit.

Early elections now, I think....though an 8 point LP poll lead isn't good for the Tories.
