And commissioners are appointed club by the elected governments of member states, they are the European cabinet. The premise is exactly the same, if that is undemocratic so is the appointing of U.K. ministers.
Barnier will get the next top job it's a closed shop with two parliaments costing a fortune!
Our House of Lords is not perfect but no way do they wield this power!

You answered your own question mate, every system has it safe guards the U.K. has the House of Lords and actually the U.K. is a constitutional monarchy which is another tier.

I bet the house of Windsor will still be in power long after Barnier serves his term, if he is elected, which I think I’m right in saying neither the House of Lords or the Queen is.

When you actually think about it, it’s tricky to make a case for democracy for the U.K. system of government, which is fine if the U.K. is happy about it.

I’m just speaking principally because you raised the issue of democracy and the EU when you actually break it down, the U.K. system of government isn’t very democratic beyond electing MPs, even on that score the lack of prortianal representation as a method of election, is undemocratic given most other modern democracies run that system.

The system was in long before the Brexit vote which was remain or Out which was a vote for vote a totally different system if it had been on the present system in the UK out would have won by 60 percent higher than any last government

I have no problem on the Brexit vote mate, it’s mandated.

My point was a reflection, on your point about the Eu and democracy and a comparison to the UKs system and there are mirror images and an argument to made that the EU is more democratic then the current British system. Just a point of debate is all.

How the UK chooses to govern themselves is respectfully up to them. But pots and kettles and what not.

The EU forced ypu when you did not want the mastich treaty they have a habit of trying this hope any government of the UK tell them to do one !
Thank you for not answering the question put to you.

But to answer your point, nothing was forced on us. The EU referendums were approved by the people of this Republic, because that is what a republic does - asks the people who own it.

And only the people of maidenhead got the chance to vote for Theresa May
Every time I see Theresa May on TV talking about Brexit she looks like a person who is reluctantly and painfully doing something she does not want to do at all and is only doing it because it is her duty.

It must be quite embarrassing for the British to be in this position. It also greatly reduces their clout in the negotiations which will hopefully will benefit us.

The British cabinet are voted in by the electorate and employed by the PM who has been elected by the party!

The PM was elected leader of the party by default when the other candidates dropped out. She didn't have to face a members vote so essentially wasn't elected by 'the party'. As an MP, she was voted into power by 37,718 people in Maidenhead. The PM's party do not command a majority in the House of Commons. 58% of voters didn't vote for them in the last election (or 70% of registered voters). The Electorate get no say on who does what in the Cabinet - it is entirely at the discretion of the party leader.

It's also worth noting that May got PM as a remainer backed largely by conservative remainers, according to academic research on the leadership election
