Mary Lou is an impressive performer - atm she is likely to be the next Taoiseach in the ROI. She wipes the floor in the Dáil (Irish Parliament) with the leaders of the other parties,

Since she took over from Adams she has brought SF to an incredible level North and South - that would never happen with Adams in charge.

Compare her with dreary "No" Donaldson.

I still would not vote SF for various reasons, but hats off for what she has achieved north and south.
I've zero time for her
speaks about equality for all and sends her kids to private schools

Fair comment. As I said, I have never voted SF, and don't expect to any time soon. However, I acknowledge that she is head and shoulders above the other party leaders in the Dáil in terms of performance, and to have brought them to over 30% popularity in the Republic and helping to make them the biggest in NI is a remarkable achievement.

I can remember them in low single figures under Adams. He was never going to be acceptable to 30% plus of the ROI electorate.

I also believe that IF she becomes Taoiseach you will see her adopting a pragmatic approach with whoever is in coalition with them. She is about seeking solutions not digging trenches.

Tbh I think you are just making excuses for the EU. The U.K. has quality standards at least as good as the EU and has so for a great many years. No, this is about giving the U.K. a kicking and for ROI to try and grab NI. It may work, it may not, but it will ruin U.K./EU relations for a long time unless addressed. The problem is that the EU think the solutions lay in more paperwork and more bureaucracy…what will be will be….
If only we’d had someone to discuss this and sign it off as an oven ready deal a few years ago ….

doing well as FF, FG and especially the Greens are a shambles

Yes @peteblue, because we were in the EU.lol
Now, the rush for a “bonfire of red tape” and “WTO terms”, both of which you have championed on this forum, will erode those standards very quickly.
Again, like Boris, you want your cake and eat it.

Name three ‘standards‘ that have been eroded…..

If you read my post it says “will erode”. When they inevitably do, as a result of those Tory funding businessmen lobbying the government over the false bogeyman of “red tape” doubtless you will blame it all on the war in Ukraine. Or Corbyn.

So, nothing has been eroded, but still the U.K. is treated like some 3rd world producer, having led the defining and introduction of the very standards used in the EU. This is all just a punishment beating for no obvious benefit to anyone. Everyone knows it, but Remainers love it. The U.K. will not stand for a lowering of standards and you and the EU know this, but it’s another stick to beat Brexit with……

Which standards did we define, lead and introduce? You are claiming all of them here btw.
How will the general public know that these standards are not being reduced? (by say; substitute ingredients, for example?)
Are we all scientists now?
If not for reduced standards; why the clamour for the bonfire of red tape?

1) Honouring International Treaties that your ink is still dry on.

The treaty will be honoured. Article 16, which the EU triggered then quickly reined back on over Covid supplies, is a key part of the protocol. “Article 16 is a safeguarding mechanism within the Ireland/Northern Ireland protocol, the arrangements agreed as part of the UK–EU Withdrawal Agreement to avoid a hard border on the island of Ireland. Article 16 allows either party to undertake unilateral safeguarding measures if the protocol leads to “serious economic, societal or environmental difficulties that are liable to persist, or to diversion of trade”.

I wonder what you would call “unilateral safeguarding measures” if they were taken by the EU?
“Punishment beatings for no obvious benefit to anyone..”

Oh i know it will, the UK will blink and discuss with the EU and this is why:

We know how this goes, we saw it with the withdrawal agreement, still huge reputational damage nationally for the UK government internationally.

Trade in Northern Ireland has improved and as already pointed out the vast majority of the population have mandated an ascent of the protocol, indeed before they rejected Brexit - full stop.

I can tell you right now what will happen, the UK will grandstand to distract from all their domestic issues, try to be seen to take on the EU and sit down and go with the EU plan all along, cant believe you fall for it to be honest mate. Vault me.
