That is the very sentiment the Tories are courting.
Perpetuate the ‘enemy at the gate’ threat and roll up with your ballot.

The irony is lost.
It's not far below the surface up in Scotland. The Tory revival there was based on the politics of fear.

Mind you, Liverpool was always Tory town until the 70s. The Protestant working class voted for them in droves.

Scotland is worse than NI now. We have had to live it while they variously sing songs about it.

NI is crying out for a Unionist leader to guide the transition.

In context, I feel as Irish in Liverpool as I do in Armagh. My kids love the city as home from home.

If ya know yer history.

Kennedy's paper on the split in 1892 is an excellent source for social history of the working class and capitalism in Liverpool in the 19th century.

The Tories strongly played the sectarian card and were central to the rise of the Liverpool based Working Men's Conservative Association and the Liverpool Prorestant Association - Houlding was a member of both as well as being Tory Councillor and Lord Mayor.

It is not for nowt Liverpool is often referred to as the "capital of Ireland", Army :)

I haven’t been able to follow the Election much lately as I am in the States but it appears the DUP are, as usual, trying to turn the NI Poll into a sectarian bearpit.

In three seats where they face a big challenge, South Belfast, North Belfast and North Down, posters have gone up trying to link the main challengers to the IRA.

The DUP have denied having owt to do with it of course, saying it is the work of loyalist paramilitary groups, but you would need to be mad to believe that given the DUP have been attending public meetings with these thugs and it was paramilitary threats to the Ulster Unionist Party which made them withdraw from North Belfast in favour of the under pressure DUP incumbent and Brexit fanatic Mr. Nigel Dodds in t’ first place.

The Alliance Party candidate in North Down in particular, Mr. Steven Farry, is particularly alarmed by it saying it paints him as a target for extremist elements in the area.

It’s becoming a very nasty affair and the courted support of Loyalist Paramilitaries for the DUP should really be given publicity in the wider British media given their former Kingmaker status.

Excellent result for Sinn Fein in the Dublin Mid West bye-election.

Does this augur well for them oop north in next week’s Westminster election?

John Finucane has now been installed as odds on favourite to beat the DUP’s Deputy Dodds in Belfast North.

But I still fancy Colm Eastwood will take Derry from them.

If we all close our eyes and wish hard enough will the border just disappear ? Asking for a Tory Brexit supporting friend.

I was away in Belfast the other day meeting with some business friends (all staunch unionists) and they seemed to have a genuine fear that each of North, South and East Belfast could go against them.

The hilarious thing was that they are all smart enough to know that Brexit alone is a disaster for Northern Ireland. However with No Deal possibility alive given the nut job Tories are still around an even greater nuclear threat also exists. But they'll still support the DUP.

DUP will definitely lose South, just about hold North but East is really close to call due to the tactical voting. While Nationalists have voted for Naomi Long before, her party’s arrogant dismissal of an anti-Brexit pact as sectarian politics may come back to haunt her.

Hey dont take away one of my little dreams for Friday morning - to hear that Deputy Dodds has been turfed out despite the finest efforts of the UDA!

Agree on Alliance. Like the Lib Dems here they seem to have played their hand poorly in this election

The majority of new voters in North and South Belfast are from traditional Unionist areas. Given that the birth rate would not support these demographics then you would wonder where these new blocs have come from although the Pan Unionist Politicians/Loyalist Paramilitary rallies around the North have played a big role.
