Anyone see The War Next Door on BBC Scotland the other night?

Very good.

Basically, the part played by soldiers and civilians from Scotland in the civil war in the north of Ireland.

Could so easily have been Liverpool once upon a time.

What did you make of it Jeff?

It’s very relevant in light of Brexit, both a reminder and a warning from the past.
At last a sensible answer.
At the start the unionists controlled everything. The Catholic population were oppressed. The British govt sent in the army to protect Catholic areas. They were initially welcomed. The Official IRA saw this as a snub to them. The Provisional IRA then emerged facing down British insurgence. Then came the good Friday agreement.
I thought the show was well balanced and gave an accurate view of events. Firing eye working life I have come into contact with both sides of the argument.
To settle it will take a middle of the road solution.

It is a lot more involved than that, but those are the basics as I see them.

A very good post that Jeff.

Brexit has accelerated the process to Unification and Ballbags like Jamie Bryson are filling the void of meaningful politicals.

Unionism needs a voice now to prepare them for what is happening. Doug Beattie is a UUP politician that I do respect greatly, he doesn’t represent me but he does represent a shared future.

We need more of him.

I hadn’t seen it and would have missed it bar your post.

My personal experience is loads of Scots on checkpoints and the sectarian nonsense they tried to provoke a reaction as you ‘were out of the car’.

Horrendous story in that first episode about the two Scots sergeants who killed that farmer and his farm hand as 'retaliation'. Utter scum.

The balloons back in Glasgow kidding on they were hardcore loyalists were just comical...storing gelignite in an oven!

That is the very sentiment the Tories are courting.
Perpetuate the ‘enemy at the gate’ threat and roll up with your ballot.

The irony is lost.
