Current Affairs Irish Border and Brexit

There's no doubt we are witnessing the beginning of the breakup of the UK tonight.

England elect a pro Brexit government with a big majority while Scotland and NI reinforce their determination to remain in the EU.

If Johnson doesn't listen to the will of the people it would be akin to the refusal to listen to the result of the 1918 GE. And we know what happened then.

Surely they have learnt the lessons of history by now.

Massive majority of 17,000 for Colum Eastwood. Well done that man.

Hope Johnson is hearing the message from Ireland loud and clear: you can stuff Brexit up your jacksee.

Eastwood turned the Derry vote into a virtual Referendum on Abstenionism.

The Republican and Nationalist people of the city have spoken and they want their voices heard in Westminster for as long as Westminster has any influence over their lives.

Notable that they are all calling for a return to Stormont, the only place where they have any remaining influence.

They are in a right pickle now.

If they do not concede on the ILA and get Stormont going again by January 21st or sommat they will face an Assembly election.

And Alliance are hot on their tail now.

Morning all!!
Just getting the results before heading to work and I am smiling at the wee 6.

As posted elsewhere I wonder what the current UK will look like in 10 years.

Unionists in minority for first time! Truly historic day.

7 SF 2 SDLP 1 Alliance 8 DUP.

Foster has gone back to using the hateful "pan-Nationalist front" language of the dark past.

Disgusting.

The odd thing is Blue, that phrase was coined by Gerry Adams back at the time of the Hume/Adams talks, when he talked of a “Pan Nationalist Front running from Derry through Belfast to Dublin and across to Washington, New York and Boston”.

It has since become a dog whistle which politicians like Foster use to rile up the more unsavoury elements of loyalists in 6 of 9.
