Current Affairs Irish Border and Brexit

Having read the text I'd be fairly happy with it if it ever gets to see the light of day. Sounds like the Irish government are as well.

This would ensure no borders reappearing anywhere on the island and and no tariff differentials being applied. It provides that cross border trade can continue unhindered as it is now which will be a relief to many people. The best bit is that it has the look of semi-permanency as it will not be replaced by a subsequent deal between the EU and the UK unlike the previous backstop. I could not see there ever being the required majority in Stormont to overturn it.

That's all pie in the sky stuff though as there is likely to be resistance to it on the ground from the unionist side if it ever comes to pass, which it probably won't.

Sorry gents but I can't abide him.
yea, sometimes I like his stuff but sometimes he comes out with stuff like all the SF MPs voluntarily resigning and then a council electing a load of political celebrities to go and sit in Westminster just for a short while. Kinda like a solution you might come up with in the pub at 1am but he got it in to the Irish Times.

No, that is not exactly true, Jeffrey.

The English did that job all on their lonesome.

The breakdown and turning point came in the spring of 1970 when a Tory government replaced Harold Wilson and a new, typically Tory policy of playing the Orange card was adopted at the behest of the struggling Unionist government and the Falls Road Curfew that July was the British Army effectively declaring war on the Belfast Catholics on their behalf, mudering five innocent civilians in the process.

For the record.....the IRA killed their first cops in the August of that year and their first soldier in the February of 1971.

Try and avoid half truths and manipulation of the facts on this thread, Jeff.

There are too many buggers know what they are talking about and will gobble you up whole :p
I grew up in that era, I know what happened.

Groucho Marx doing a Sammy Tache impersonation.

;)lollol absolute magic that Khal....dont know as much about NI politics as your good self but I did know about "Sammy Tache". Learned more about the subject on this thread than I had before. A little light relief on a deadly serious matter. Thank you.

@Armaghtoffee

What are the Sinners saying about this deal?

They must be happy enough.
It has been given a cautious welcome in general given how strongly Remain they are.

Behind closed doors they will of course be delighted that the DUP have been shown their arse and that London is explaining why NI going forward really isn’t a fully paid up member of the union.

Frankly it’s hilarious that the DUP (Dodds) is demanding the GFA is upheld and that they are flat refusing a straight out majority vote in Stormont.
