Current Affairs Irish Border and Brexit

I'd recommend watching the No Stone Unturned documentary to anyone who gets a chance to see it. It's a US production on the Loughinisland Massacre and the subsequent cover-up and the victims' families fight for justice. Compelling viewing.

There is a good one on Netflix about the Miami Showband and how Nairac of the British Army organised loyalist death squads, including serving military personnel from the UDR, in the border region in the 70s.

Was that Loughinisland one due to be shown or ORTE a few months ago but was pulled at the last minute?

I seem to recall a discussion on Slugger O’Toole about it.

Big Arlene is on the warpath....NO SURRENDER TO THE EU.......

DUP leader Arlene Foster has said that alleged comments by German Chancellor Angela Merkel that Northern Ireland must remain in the Customs Union for any Brexit deal to be reached reveal "the real objective of Dublin and the European Union".

Ms Foster was speaking after sources claimed that following a call earlier between British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Ms Merkel a Brexit deal was now "essentially impossible".

Ms Foster said no UK government would ever concede leaving part of its sovereign territory in a foreign organisation that it is not part of.

She said: "For the United Kingdom to be asked to leave a part of its sovereign territory in a foreign organisation of which the UK would no longer be a part and over which we would have no say whatsoever is beyond crazy. No UK government could ever concede such a surrender."

As far as I know the spin on Frau Merkel’s remarks have eminated from “ a Downing Street source”.

a.k.a. Mr. Dominic Cummings no doubt.

Whether she said it or not has to be open to question given the veritable Lie Factory inside 10 Downing Street right now.

It was on last Wednesday night, the first ever showing on TV apparently. Given what it unearthed its wouldn't be surprising if someone had tried to stop it being aired. It named and shamed the (cough) 'suspects', one of whom was a serving British soldier and another an alleged informer for RUC Special Branch. Still no prosecutions though as most of the evidence 'disappeared', unsurprisingly. That they didn't even bother torching the getaway car tells you everything you need to know.

It was originally broadcast in 2017 presumablyonly in USA. My wife and I watched it last week when it was premiered in Ireland.

You can watch it on RTE Player.

It names the three involved and shows recent footage of the shooter who now seems to have his own business.

Chilling the amount of security force direct involvement and collusion.

Plus the British. But if you remember, the British army came in to assist the RC community, they were greeter with tea & cakes, until the provisionals saw the English were doing their job and turned the nationalist community against the army. I know, I was there. The conflict needs to be seen in its entirety, not piecemeal to suit adgenda.

No, that is not exactly true, Jeffrey.

The English did that job all on their lonesome.

The breakdown and turning point came in the spring of 1970 when a Tory government replaced Harold Wilson and a new, typically Tory policy of playing the Orange card was adopted at the behest of the struggling Unionist government and the Falls Road Curfew that July was the British Army effectively declaring war on the Belfast Catholics on their behalf, mudering five innocent civilians in the process.

For the record.....the IRA killed their first cops in the August of that year and their first soldier in the February of 1971.

Try and avoid half truths and manipulation of the facts on this thread, Jeff.

There are too many buggers know what they are talking about and will gobble you up whole :p

You can’t get RTE Player over here :(

I must check if anyone put it on Youtube.

What's it called Khal? I have the RTE app. Might be able to get it on that.
