@Armaghtoffee ......what is going on with the Sinn Fein leadership challenge?

It has just occurred to me that since Johnson’s Fantasy Island “proposals” last week a lot of SF people have been wheeled out to comment on it but, just like Samuel Tache of the DUP, Ms Michelle O’Neill seems to be conspicuous by her absence.

Not a peep about it at all Khal which must be sensible given the rumours of the DUP split over Brexit.

She was on the news last week denouncing the latest Johnson proposals.

Ah yes, the UK trying to leverage the Irish position in terms of future difficulties for Ireland.
As if it isn't something the Irish government has already invisiged or planned for

And a financial sweetener? Er lads, the EU has offered us billions in assistance if it's needed

I heard Jeffrey Donaldson on tonight again, trying unsuccessfully to put lipstick on the pig that is Johnson’s deal.

Specifically about the DUP veto on the Stormont Lock every four years.

When a Sinn Fein woman said there is no way the DUP were being handed a veto, he replied that Sinn Fein would have one too.

(Which is perfectly true as it happens)

So it got me to thinking about how the Sinn Fein veto would work.....bearing in mind they would always vote in favour of the regulatory alignment.

So it would go like this.....we suppose that when the vote comes up, the other parties all vote to abandon it.

But Sinn Fein exercise their veto ergo the system cannot be altered and the regulatory alignment remains.

Is that the way it works?

I would pose the question did Johnson and his aides put any thought into it at all.

But I know they did.....the considerable thought process was to make the deal as absurd as possible, safe in the knowledge the EU will bin it altogether.

Could Sammy be keeping a low profile because of the allegations coming his way on Spotlight tonight?
I don’t think so as he’s well used to the Ulster Resistance allegations. I personally think he flounced at the DUP climb down and just couldn’t be trusted in front of the media until brought back in harness.

Disappointingly the Alliance party appear to be rejecting proposals for a pro-Remain election pact.

Not surprising.

Apart from their leader, they seem like LibDems to me.....self righteous, self serving and imbued with a total belief in their own publicity.

Add to that the woman they propose to run in South Belfast, Paula Bradshaw, previously contested the seat as a Tory and Tories are finding the LibDems a comfortable home these days (I am listening to Heidi Allen justifying her journey from Tory to LibDem on t’ radio as I type).

This stems from the fact they reckon they are the party best placed to take South Belfast from the DUP and as such want the SDLP to pull out, on the basis of a strong showing in the Local elections, a PR election totally different from FPP where Nationalists could happily vote Alliance safe in the knowledge they would get their preferred candidate elected as well.

As far as I am hearing they will get a rude awakening.

Because at that point, if Alliance run in South Belfast the SDLP will surely agree a pact with Sinn Fein to give that party a free run in North Belfast in exchange for the Sinners not running in South.

Well done Alliance....their stance will turn the elections in South and North Belfast into sectarian headcounts.

Carmel Hanna (SDLP) has declared herself open to a pact and presumably this would be in return for her party standing aside in the north ward.

With rumours of Martin O’Muilleoir leaving politics then this can all be very timely.
