The horrible dirty irony of some of the stuff coming out of the DUPs mouth about the democratic justification of Stormont having a veto (when it's their own veto) and how they believe it protects and actually empowers the Good Friday Agreement (even though they voted against its inception!).

And the barely veiled threats of how history shows unionism must always be listened to.

Well heres news Arlene - this time the nationalists have the whole bloody EU behind us!
Sure if they hadn't been allowed to veto the Home Rule bill a century ago we'd probably all still be in the same country and would have avoided the wars and conflict we've experienced in the intervening 100 years.

Will the lessons of history ever be learnt ? No, according to the Tory government of 2019. Unionism must be allowed to have a veto on any progress despite every single other political party and business leaders in NI completely disagreeing with them. It would make you weep.

Well done to Sylvia Harmon btw, the only unionist present in the HOC today who stood up and reminded Johnson that the DUP don't speak for the people of NI.

Well the first sentence is merely stating facts and the reasons for those figures have been eloquently explained above.

As for the second sentence it is symbolic of the way that Ireland is now more closely aligned to the EU now especially given the current UK predicament. The fact is that many in Britain now would be delighted if the country could be moved further away from France and the rest of the continent. Not sure how racism comes into this at all.
If your mate Pete Blue were to say that he would be delighted if our country could be moved further away from Ireland, would you consider that symbolic? Or would you consider that to be an insult to the Irish people.

That Home Rule Bill was about 90 years ahead of its time.

By the 1990s "Home Rule" for Scotland, Wales and 6 of 9 had became an actual thing.

You are right...how many lives would have been saved if the unholy alliance between the Tories and Unionist in the opening decade back in the 20th had not stymied Home Rule.

I don’t know how our friends on here from the Republic of Ireland view Leo’s politics in general but I think he is having a splendid Brexit,
