Or tell that to the EU who had nothing to do with the Good Friday agreement!

It had no reason to be involved. Both countries were at the time EU members. But i am sure they say they were in some capacity. Not that i could verify that it was something i read years ago.

Pretty sure they saw the UK and Ireland being well enough to sort it out. The EU would only get involved with members affairs for something like this if asked to mediate.

But hey don't let your hate of the EU get in the way of facts.

My hatred of the EU is in the. Same club of the 17.4 million who voted out Democraticly in the U.K. That what you and other Remoaners should respect, but throwing problems up that suit the remain side is just not negotiated end terms that both sides will agree upon eventually

So is the crux of the problem that Irish Unionists are trying to use Brexit as a bit of a power play to achieve the goal of a closed border?

Folk wanting this done as best as we possibly can, with most happy with the final result, isnt ignoring, or not accepting, democracy. We have one chance to sort this, and even as one who wished we didnt follow this path, I would prefer it if we got it right. Or at least close.
Negotiations are ongoing there will be a deal the rich remainers are doing their best to stop it imo

All interested parties will want their ideal deal. Its called negotiation, and is part of said democratic process. We were asked if we wanted to leave the EU. Not "How?"

We left that bit to the politicians to sort out. As you continually say, remainers should accept the democratic vote. I do. I will also have to accept the final deal, as will you. Even if you disagree with it. Its Democracy Joe.

You know i'm Irish right and live in the US. I am not a "remoaner" as you keep calling me. This is an Irish border thread not the EU in or out one.

I respect your democratic right to vote whatever tickles your fancy Joey.

But you blatantly bash the EU even when its not a fair critique. You even make stuff up about them.

I could care less about your country leaving Europe. What i do care about is you nations government being really sloppy and forgetting about Ireland and the border and then pretending it will be a ok.

But sure remind me again about 53% or democracy and voting because that's a great argument.

There is a percentage of that i would imagine but mainly they have no idea how to deal with it and never even gave it a thought to begin with.

They think it will all be fine and want to blame the EU for anything that goes awry because it suits their agenda.

To an extent.

Some unionists would of course love a physical border but their bigger concern now will be special status being bestowed on NI. The symbolism and practicalities of that separation from London is their real concern.

Or to paraphrase it, the beginning of the end of the Union.

Ah...now that makes more sense than my more sinister question. I suppose that would be a reasonable concern if you played for Team London.

Certainly is complex. Thanks for helping with my ignorance on the topic.

Your point was very valid as it is the Unionist default position.

Personally I can only see special status and that will likely see the demise of Theresa.

The agreement on the Ireland problem was passed in the first part of the negotiations in December 2017 by the UkAnd the EU and the North the south will do what the bullyboys of the EU dictate!
A deal will be done imo!

Erm... no it wasn't. Well it was initially and then it wasn't, because the DUP said NO again. So May came up with a form of words to appease them for a while, and avoided the issue by kicking it down the line to be revisited at a future date.

It hasn't gone away y'know.
