Current Affairs Irish Border and Brexit

I don’t fancy your chances of convincing Irish Unionists of this. Open border of our bit of rock but show your passport for London.

I have been advocating this for years though ;)

Seeing as your lot voted quite strongly to remain surely the Unionists would see a compromise is necessary. It's people voted remain and are affected more than anyone else in the UK.

I'm not particularly worried by that tbh. There's worse things in life than someone asking me for ID tbh.

As long as there are no customs or trading barriers between NI and the rest of the UK. That would be insane and unacceptable.
The idea of getting off a flight in Liverpool and walking out of the airport unheeded yet be stopped at customs for ID while going to the shops at home would stick in me big time.

I cross the border twice a day for work. It would be a disaster if there were border checks again. Unfortunately I remember the 3 mile queue of lorries stretching from Newry to the border in pre-EU days and it is something I thought we would never see again. :(

Here's an anomaly for you people who travel by air to the south via Holyhead Wales by sea no passport needed by air you need a passport from the UK!

To close all border crossings again would not be logistically possible without serious personnel on the ground be they Civil Servants or military. Unbelievable that we are even discussing this now.

No by boat via Hollyhead in north wales to Southern Ireland on the sea ferry no passport needed, yet travel to Southern Ireland from the UK is aeroplane passport needed!

No you do not need a passport to travel between Ireland and the UK in either direction via any means of transport.

The reason you need it when flying is because it is the only acceptable form of ID for most airlines, but it is not a legal requirement.

That sounds as clear as mud - the same as saying you need border control in Ireland!lol
