Yet it’s only remainers who couldn’t work out that leaving the EU meant leaving the customs union and the ECJ.......truly you couldn’t make this up.......

Where did it say that Pete? I can give you plenty of quotes from official Leave campaigners saying we could stay in the single market (and therefore customs union).

Oh Charlie , Charlie proper Charlie -
ere we have on wikipedia the full terms of the Good Friday agreement read through it not once did I read the EU involvement of its conception 20 years ago - also two referendums that were respected {cough}
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Good_Friday_Agreement
It does say the UK will work the deal out so why are the EU sticking its oar in ?
is it they want to block Brexit ?
already differences in VAT - tax rates - currencies exist between the North and the South with no border = no problems - typical bullying from the EU! end of!
they were never part of the Good Friday agreement so after 20 years it can be sorted its not the ball and end all of Brexit its a problem for the north the south and UK to facilitate the EU can sod off!
unelected bureaucrats sticking the oar in !

Joey we keep going round in circles. The EU's involvement is very important from an Irish perspective. That's it in a nutshell.

How will you and the other Brexiteers feel if the population from Poland and Romania etc in England goes through the roof over the next 5 years?

You see if you take your "keep the border open - no problem" approach then there's nothing to stop hundreds of thousands of EU migrants landing in Dublin and then driving across the border into Northern Ireland and from there heading across on boats and plans to England. Nothing at all.

But you're saying you're okay with that?

Wasting your breath mate. But apparently everyone who voted considered all this. Happy to concede. I didnt. Just said we havnt a clue what we are voting for if we leave.

Voting remain and accepting ever closer union, and eventual removal of the concept of a sovereign nation state was every bit as uncertain as voting leave.

In fact it was the weak and unambitious choice. The Big Sam choice so to speak.

The people who voted for this haven't contemplated the true impact of this distastrous decision, but one thing is certain - they don't give a fiddle about the consequences for anyone in Ireland, North or South.

On s island you can check at the seaports and the airports when we tighten our border controls if the south keep letting people in it's their choice but the north can check their seaports and airports no problem it's the EU trying to throw a spanner in the works trade will continue as per usual a deal will be done!

Would it be totally unreasonable to have an open border, but anyone travelling from NI to other parts of the UK would have to go through customs/show a passport?

Kinda harsh on the people of NI. Seems somewhat reasonable though.

Wouldn't bother me one bit. Well passport anyway. Customs would be a no no tbh.

They already ask for ID at the airport when I fly from Belfast to Liverpool or London or wherever, even though I'm a UK citizen.

I dont see why Varadkar and May just don't meet each other, use their brains for 5 minutes, realise a common trade and travel area between Britain and Ireland makes sense, then sign a bilateral deal. Job done.

That's a good point. ID is required to fly as it is currently.

I guess what I am getting at since there would be an open border with the EU in NI the border with the rest of the UK would be the airports/ports. Treat them like international flights/ferries/etc. Problem solved except a bit of a hassle.

Tried that yarg cheese as yet?
Sometimes a shortage of nettle crops which encases it is in short supply!
By the way do not eat the nettle crust some say you can , but it is awful!
I hope they find a soulution in Ireland my family on my fathers side origins from the south;)

No mate...haven't found it. If I do I will let you know.
