So if Ireland and the U.K. are the ones affected by the border, and if they both happened to agree a way forward, you would be happy for Slovenia ,Slovakia or Cyprus on behalf of the EU to veto a deal would you......

You seem to disregard the fact that the Republic of Ireland is part of the European Union and this is a land border with a non EU country and the EU, so all EU countries are effected.
The majority of people in Northern Ireland voted the remain within the EU and polls indicate that the majority of Northern Irish want the backstop.
If the Conservative government wasn't propped up by the DUP I doubt we would be having this problem. With the Labour Party now going for remain and the Conservatives for leaving the only sensible course of action is for a general election so that one party or a coalition can get a working majority and move forward.
I understand the frustration of those who voted leave last time and that they will make the point that their will has been ignored but that was then and a general election would be the latest expression of the will of the people.
we are in extraordinary times and extraordinary measures are required.

Perhaps, but if we ignore a nationwide vote, why should anyone respect another nationwide vote......GE or Other......this is the dodgy ground we are on.....

But again, there will have to be a hard border.Something the famous bus seemed to miss.

We are on dodgy ground and because we are then we need to have a real solution and not this uncontrolled drift to a no deal exit. I do not believe all the people understood the ramifications of voting to leave, there were untruths told throughout on both sides, no mentioned the border in the run up to the vote. I did know that the referendum was not binding on the government, I understood that perfectly. If it is now a choice of splitting the country completely and the very real prospect of a return to violence on the streets then I would choose stepping back and not now allowing the referendum to be binding and then going for a General Election with all parties setting out their manifestos for remain or leave. Then move forward from there.
Everyone understood that when the referendum was held that the result was not binding on the government, we all knew that at the time. If a referendum is held and then not acted upon then the people have the opportunity to vote that party into opposition at the next GE. That is as good a form of representative democracy as we can redeem from this debacle.

If you continue that logic, what’s it got to do with England, Scotland or Wales. To take your argument to it’s logical conclusion, it should be dealt with by the RoI and NI. What have Cardiff, Nottingham or Aberdeen got to do with it. It’s a UK EU border Pete.

Which is the whole point that the 2nd ballot remainers can't or because they lost, won't see.
Some have said yeah but it was only by 2% so it doesn't truly reflect blah, blah etc, etc.
But if the 2% was the other foot, the same remainers would be saying listen, its over, you lost, move on and would laugh you out of the room if you asked for another Ballot

Dodgy ground indeed

We know you don't care anyway, but just in case the penny hasn't dropped yet with Brexiteers this is the PSNI Chief Constable at his presser today...

Brexit 'absolutely detrimental' to peace process - PSNI Chief

The Chief Constable of the PSNI has warned that a hard Brexit will have an absolutely detrimental impact on the peace process. Simon Byrne said he was concerned about how Brexit will play out in the weeks ahead and was worried a hard Brexit would create a vacuum and a rally call for recruiting dissident republicans. He warned that a rise in their popularity or capability would be very serious.

"But to get to specifics if we have a hard border the question I have for London, frankly, is how do we police that hard border? You'll know how many crossings there are between the two countries, nearly 300 - and that's the official ones. So I think it raises a whole raft of issues around the potential for smuggling."

"If we go into the worst case scenario, apart from the policing dimension, my personal concern is for example understanding the effects on agriculture here, which is so important. If tariffs change and drop we will see the prospect of animals being culled and people going out of business, that may lead to unrest and we are having to protect other agencies as we go to support new arrangements. The minute we go into the border in that regard our worry is my officers and staff become a target for dissident republicans."

During a press conference at PSNI Headquarters in Belfast, the Chief Constable was asked if a hard Brexit would have a detrimental impact on the peace process.

"Absolutely detrimental," he replied.

The chief Brexiteer himself said that 52/48 wouldn't settle the matter (when he thought his side would lose).

personally i think if everybody left aside what they want from all of this and looked at it from the view of how best to govern a country in general, I think everybody should agree that making huge changes based on a small minority on an advisory vote is not a very good approach.

would people want other major decisions made in this way?

You are just making things up and diverting now, any chance of answering my question.......

This return to violence comes from whom ?....

I’m not sure how many times the U.K. government has to say there will not be a hard border, nor the fact that it has even been written into UK law. So just who is putting a hard border up........l
