Indeed, but only one of them will have no reference to EU in the future. Your Irish passport MUST have reference to the EU. It’s not a choice even though everyone knows that Ireland is in the EU. My key point in all of this, which the original responder completely overlooked in order to divert is that having fought for Independence the ROI is less independent now than it was as the Irish Free State and it will get worse in the future......
Make your points by all means, but use facts, not ignorant statements about passports and such like. You are all over the place with statements about us speaking German if we'd have lost the war. Sheer Colonel Blimpism and totally irrelevant to what we were discussing.
Laughable......

He can't stop himself dragging up the past, he's been at it all week.

Get ready for the next instalment - 'You didn't support us in our war against Argentina.'

And then he'll accuse us of holding grudges.

Comical as you say.

It is a fact that you must have the EU on your passports. Let’s see you get one without European Union written on it. In respect of the speaking German bit, I mentioned it because it was stated that no one chose to be part of the Empire, yet they chose to aid the U.K. against Hitler. There is no doubt that if the U.K. had folded then the whole of Ireland would also have been taken over. To even dream that this would not have happened is naivety in the extreme.....

The points I have been trying to make, and it is difficult with people who refuse to listen, or in some cases are just unable to, is that the ROI fought for its Independence, it became Independent, but it is no longer truly Independent. Ignore or mock this however you may, but when the EU instruct you to amend your tax or VAT rates don’t pretend that it was through free choice.......

Why is it a big deal if 'EU' is on passports? It means better ease of travel through the EU than the future British ones. Every one of the people of Ireland who own an Irish passport have their nationality status as 'Irish'. There is no such nationality status as European citizen and you know it. Well, you know it now. Typical Brexiteer behaviour, fast and loose with facts, and resorting to the days of empire to bolster their arguments. They all do it, to be fair to Pete. From him through to Johnson lying through his teeth last week at JCB about Turkey.

Laughable

Every state has autonomy over tax and VAT as you well know.

This is perhaps a debate for another time, but states really should not have such autonomy in these areas now.

How else would a free market open economy work? How would any state other than the biggest have an economy. States have to be free to see and use tax revenues as they see fit.

Every state in the US has autonomy over taxes, other than federal taxes.

No-one is mocking or ignoring anything.

All EU nations have had to concede an element of sovereignty in order to avail of the benefits of being members of the Union.

Nothing new here. Must try harder.

My point being that this ‘element of sovereignty’ will continue and incessantly grow, until being part of the old British Empire will seem like absolute freedom.....if you don’t see this, then fine....
