Current Affairs Irish Border and Brexit

There will be no deal because May is insisting on this stupid arrangement with the DUP to cling to power with no way to allow the principles set out in the Good Friday Agreement to continue.

An Taoiseach has full support for the government's position both at home and throughout the EU. The consequences for everyone of the UK's refusal to compromise are now laid bare.

Everyone in the U.K. and in the Eu apart from the ROI knows it will have to change. You can pretend it won’t and that everyone is hanging on whatever Varadkar wants. The reality is that if they do then it’s No Deal, with the consequences of decimating the ROI economy and screwing up everyone else. The ROI will be spoken to. All that needs to be done is allow everyone to save face.....

Everyone in Ireland and EU knows the UK will have to change. You can pretend it won’t and that everyone is hanging on to your uncompromising position. The reality is that if the UK doesn't budge then it’s No Deal, with the consequences of decimating the UK and Irish economies and screwing up everyone else. The UK has been spoken to. All that needs to be done is for the UK government to come up with a solution which allows everyone to save face.....

Yeah but we won’t.....enjoy your recession.....

There is a high risk of a recession but it is worldwide, it is not due to Brexit. The EU is going to be hit far harder than Britain. The banks throughout the EU, including Germany, are in dire straits and it is unlikely that the euro will survive (the ECB have nothing left in its armoury). The only hope is that the USA and China come to some sort of accord but that isn't looking likely.

It is not an issue of technology....
You said 'the technology exists.' That is absolutely false.

Have you even been on the Irish border?!? I grew up on it, travel it weekly and I still haven't passed every crossing on it. I know people with farms and houses that straddle both sides. How does this work, Pete? What do you know that the current eu 28 do not?

I have said that the process needs to be sorted. That’s what is not defined. The technology exists.....

Laughable isn't it that his tack is now to drive to drive a wedge between us and the EU and single out the Taoiseach for personal blame because he won't be bullied into giving into the Brexiteers' demands.

Furthermore he threatens that the UK will blackmail Ireland by deliberately causing a recession if we don't cave in. It is thoroughly reprehensible behaviour which he seems to be taking an enjoyment from.

Meanwhile me and thousands of others are wondering what problems we are going to encounter when we attempt to go to work on Monday 1st April.

As you say, you can only laugh at his fantasies.

No one is threatening anyone. I am merely explaining to you the logical outcome of the circumstances and politics.....

Hey Pete, two pages ago you said that Irish nationals have an EU passport and I pulled you on it, asking you to explain why the nationality status said Irish and not EU. Are you any nearer to answering my question? Thanks in advance

That’s because I didn’t understand the question and still don’t. The passports are EU passports, it says so on the front....

I'll explain it for you then. The passport says EU on the front so that it enables the holder, upon establishment of their details, unhindered travel throughout the EU. The EU cover of the passport does not define the nationality of the holder. The details on the data page define this. Ergo, 28 countries have the same cover passport but with 28 different nationality statuses. This is relevant for defining the nationality status of the holder should they wish to travel elsewhere in the world. I do not understand the fact that you stated that Irish nationals have EU passports. So do 27 other countries. What is your point Pete, or don't you really understand what you're talking about?
