He looks beyond that. The DUP getting any solace is just a by-product of his internationalism.
It sounded to me like he was just attacking May for the sake of attacking May from a default position as leader of HM opposition. It seemed unnecessary as she had stood down the right wing of her own party and the DUP in one stroke by agreeing to the backstop.

I wonder if she hadn't agreed to the deal and the talks had broken down, would he have then criticised her for failing to negotiate a deal at all and NOT facing down the DUP and those rabid anti-EU MPs in her own party. I suspect he would have. It's blatant opportunism without principle in my book instead of sticking to what he believes in. Corbyn siding with the DUP leaves a bad taste in the mouth whatever way you look at it.

I think she will be deposed either by her own party or a GE - her Brexit plan is her obituary imo tbh I am that frustrated with her I would vote for Corbyn always voted Labour but never liked his Marxist views but she has become a proven liar .... If the DUP and others vote it down which is now certain the letters will pile in or the will be a GE.....
She may be replaced as the Conservative leader, but I can't see the Tories voting down their own government and going for a General Election.

Boris Johnson to speak at the DUP conference this weekend to stiffen up their resolve :lol

This is the human equivalent of unspeakable pursuing inedible.

But Corbyn's overall game is to get Britian out of what he sees as a capitalist club that wont allow any future Labour Government the room to advance the State and roll back the influence of the market in the UK. He's he's obviously not an ideological bedfellow of the DUP, and any Corbyn Government would likely be much more sympathetic to the Nationalist cause in NI.

That's not ideal or convincing for you, I know. But I dont think it's as a simple as Corbyn 'siding with the DUP' as you have it.

So basically he's as anti-EU as the Tory right wing and the DUP then, albeit for different reasons. That at least explains his stance the day after the deal became public. He should come out and say this publicly if that is what he believes.

Although I thought I heard him saying that he wanted the UK to stay in the Single Market and Customs Union to protect jobs and workers rights, but maybe I dreamt that. And any future Corbyn government that would be sympathetic to the Nationalist cause in NI would quickly be reminded that he once backed the DUP when they claimed that May's Brexit would create a border down the Irish Sea.

The feller seems to have more holes in his argument than a piece of cheese and is happy to court anyone in his pursuit of power. A bit like the rest of them really.

You have to view all these statements through the prism of Labour Party internal politics. He cant unilaterally declare his position and then have another civil war.

The ends justify the means. It's realpolitik.

Not sure NI comes on to the political spectrum in England if I’m honest, the chagrin around the backstop indicates it, you are generally looking at empty chamber when anything is discussed about Ni before this pesky back stop thingy.

I think the DUP sealed that fate of her last night hence why not enough letters went in - they proved that this pathetic deal will not go through - meaning then the letters will pile in her statement yesterday to the CBi about EU people in the past being queue jumpers was disgusting - a very bad choice of words - imo if there is any job here at any salary anyone should be able to apply for it under a visa system in the future - May is now touring the TV studios - Radio studios trying to convince UK people this is the best deal since sliced bread who is she fooling only herself - Gibraltar Spain want the deal changing .......
May will not last long , and TBH staying in the EU atm would be cheaper than her deal it's got no chance of being passed , and the DUP proved that just by abstaining they will fetch it down - fetch it on either we get a true Brexit leader or we stay in .......
I will never vote ever again if this shambles is not sorted out........ the vultures are circling she will be gone soon......
Would your visa system extend to Irish nationals @Joey66? A lot of them are British through having been born in Northern Ireland, but choose to be Irish. Plus, they have always been treated different to other European nationals.

On the issue of the border with Northern Ireland, the declaration reads: "The Parties recall their determination to replace the backstop solution on Northern Ireland by a subsequent agreement that establishes alternative arrangements for ensuring the absence of a hard border on the island of Ireland on a permanent footing."
"Facilitative arrangements and technologies will also be considered in developing any alternative arrangements for ensuring the absence of a hard border on the island of Ireland on a permanent footing," it adds.

So there's no excuse left for the DUP not accepting this other than their own selfish interests.

Saw this in an article I was reading this morning:

It now seems astounding to read the DUP manifesto from 2014.

It stated: "The DUP recognises that the Single Market is one of the European Union's most transformative assets. We want to maximise the economic opportunities that it presents for Northern Ireland.

"As a region of the UK, Northern Ireland is now part of a Europe that is better connected than ever before, by air, rail, sea and online. With better connectivity there is an inherent potential for economic growth, via the free movement of labour, goods, capital and services. [The DUP] wants to help businesses and individuals in our local communities to exploit this potential.

"We are committed to promoting Northern Ireland's highly-educated and high-skilled workforce at an EU level and showcasing our region of the UK as an hospitable business environment within the Single Market."

Oh dear.
