..yep, there was an article by Marcus Armytage at the weekend saying Irish horses might not be able to compete in the Grand National. Not sure what it means for Cheltenham, but Australian and US horses run at Royal Ascot without any bother.

However there is legislation covering that , potentially there won’t be with a no deal

As it happens I think a lot will or rather could probably be resolved in time to not make a huge impact but an impact there certainly will be . If your involved in a sphere which could be effected though it seems perfectly reasonable to be concerned.

Cheltenham would be OK for this coming season.

Brexit doesn’t start until March 29th or thereabouts.

After Cheltenham.....but a few days before Aintree, hence the concern over the National.

I think the issue is not one of horses running in the U.K., I think it was more about the horses would not be allowed back into the ROI under EU rules......

I think there would just be a myriad of issues though wouldn’t there from whether there are enough vets in both countries to facilitate the necessary checks to the possibility of general delays and a lot more besides .

I do personally suspect and hope I lot will be ironed out but time isn’t on our side that’s for sure .

I do see her argument Pete and it is purely to hold NI within the U.K.

The DUP can’t gain here at all. They know a Nationalist tide is coming and that their actions in advocating Brexit against the wishes of Ulster is galvanising Nationalist sentiment. And to be fair, it was needed.

If the DUP decide to try and topple May then it opens the door to a Corbyn government which will be pro-Irish unification.

Arlene has unwittingly accelerated Irish politics by 25 years.

I’d forget about the DUP their are far bigger players that are going to enter the game.

The UK without a backstop or agreement are going to come across hostility from the USA. One thing I think is underrated in all of this is the support the USA will give to Ireland, it’s hugely significant, massively historical and hugely political within their political system. Not to mention they are hugely invested in the good friday agreement.

In practical terms the USA will isolate the UK that has no political consequence or historical attatchment to them, for the Irish agenda and European economic benefit.

It’s either cave or unravel is my take.

And this is the nonsense of the EU really. In the space of a couple of days, nothing will have really changed, our standards and rules in both the U.K. and EU will remain the same, yet some bureaucrats will demand that horses cannot move from one country to another, because they cannot get their heads around just being pragmatic and sensible......

I’m not so sure. The USA is more likely to ask the EU why is it that they cannot have the backstop instead of the U.K.....

But there have to rules don’t they ? I can see both sides if I’m honest , you can’t say any country that was in the eu and leaves is good . I also think I can see why to many it looks ridiculous but I can also see why rules have to be applied .

We can’t leave somewhere and expect, without some serious negotiations, to be treated the same. That’s why the rhetoric of various politicians might sell to the base but I’m not convinced how much good they do.

It's that time of day when you come on and talk nonsense. This is the bit where you say 'indeed....'

There is an ignore button you know. Your sort of post is designed to belittle and shut down debate. You couldn’t even be bothered to ask why ? So if you do not wish to debate, please do not respond. There are a few of you trying this particular strategy, and quite honestly adding nothing other than childish comments. Debate or don’t, but don’t try and be clever, because you are not......

Of course there must be rules, but I defy anyone on here to show me why within the space of a few days that the rules of a member of 40+ years standing, without changing, are no longer acceptable to the EU......

Because , for example , the same free movement that eu citizens have enjoyed for 40 + years standing will be going and is no longer acceptable to the UK , some are actually demanding that happen immediately. Although not the same It’s similar to others who seem shocked that freedom of movement going means across the board .

Things are changing , it’s very hard for them to listen to us say we want somethings that we want to change and the stuff we like we’d like to keep . Obviously I’d like negotiations to go well , Unfortunately I don’t see us in that position of strength .

Then fine. Irish horses will not come to the Grand National. It will still go ahead, no one will notice apart from the owners and workers in Ireland......I voz just following orders.......
