Perhaps, and if it is the will of the people then so be it. But don’t forget that the unionists in NI or a future United Ireland, will also be part of that island and will have to be accommodated, and not just have their noses rubbed in it.........
Not being smart or facetious here Pete but I think a lot of unionists would like to be accommodated back on the mainland if unification ever happens
They haven’t lived in a true democracy for generations and won’t want to live in a mainly catholic led one
They are too used to having things their own way financially and economically

And almost right on cue.......I am just surprised it took so long for this threat to appear.

(I don’t have access to the whole article online so I cannot post it here)

Every time Ulser unionists see something they don’t like they bring marching men on to the streets in an attempt to de-stabilise it.

They did it to confront Civil Rights marchers in Derry and Burntollet in the ‘60s and lit the fuse on the Troubles..

They did it with the UDA and the Ulster Resistance Movement after the original Stormont was porogued in 1972.

They did it with the Ulster Workers strike to bring down the power sharing executive following Sunningdale.in 1974.

They did it when Ulster Says No after the Anglo Irish Agreement in 1986.

They did it at Drumcree in the 90s and when Belfast City Council stopped flying their “fleg” 24/7 a couple years ago.

And now this dingbat is being put forward to threaten marching men on the street in the event of a sensible and equitabke soloution being agreed over the Brexit Border fiasco.

Here's what it says:

Writing for the Unionist Voice website, Mr Bryson said any form of backstop or special status would "effectively mutilate Northern Ireland's constitutional position by stealth".

This, he added, would "almost certainly trigger a grassroots unionist reaction that would dwarf the anger of the flag protests and Drumcree".

"Remember that the DUP and mainstream unionism largely set their face against the flag protests. The protests didn't have universal unionist support, but when it comes to the very survival of unionism itself there would undoubtedly be a reaction," he said.

"There is, of course, no appetite within unionism or in the mind of any sensible person for violence. That is something that no sane person would ever advocate. I believe those who are whipping up fears of violence are scaremongering, and that anyone that would threaten violence has no place within any civilised democratic society.

"However peaceful civil disobedience on an industrial scale would clearly have the capability to render an annexed Northern Ireland ungovernable. The greatest disruption caused by the union flag protests stemmed not from rioting or violence, but rather from the peaceful protests across the province."

So it's basically a threat to bring NI to a grinding halt should they not get their way, yet again. Also talk about annexation is laughable when the place is already in the EU.

"NO SURRENDER TO THE EU OR ANYBODY ELSE FOR THAT MATTER."

Good man, Mark ;)

Now, Bryson is a dingbat of the highest order, but I am certain he is playing the role of useful idiot for the more sinister elements within the DUP in making these threats.

Bryson! He’s an absolute idiot. If this is the best that the unionists can do (alongside the DUP clowns) then unionism is finished. He’ll cause a commotion but will have no credible alternative. Sound familiar?

A good question raised at PMQ’s today.....

“Mr Lewis - chair of the defence select committee - said: 'The next time shroud-waving EU negotiators claim a hard border is necessary on the island of Ireland, will she kindly ask them who would actually construct it?
'The Irish certainly won't, the British certainly won't, so unless the EU army plans to march in and build it, it surely can never happen.' .......

You'll find it tricky to negotiate new global trade deals with a porous border.

Ah, words of balm from a fellow who cares about seeking a soloution to very real, emotive and most of all complex problem

And then we wonder how these rabid Brexiteers have backed themselves into a corner

Correct . I can’t believe anyone could hang their hat on this bloke who is quite literally engaged in trade wars with tariffs galore at the minute . I’ve no doubt he’s supportive of Brexit , for a host of reasons , and of course it’d be great to get a good deal but anyone who imagines it won’t be to the complete betterment of the US and also that he couldn’t change his mind in a heartbeat must be delusional.
