I have no idea what you're saying here.... are you sticking with the theorem if you win the cup it means you get relegated?

OK

Ill break it down, there are two distinct Evertonians at the moment

1. Is an evertonian so stinking sick of seeing Davy Moyes negative tactics, and bottling it for years in major cup ties in the hope of finishing higher up the league, and thus satisfying the other Evertonian

2. This other evertonian is a mix of myself, happy to finish as hight up the league hopeful one day we will be bought out, not PARTICULARLY arsed about trophies as they are not the end all and be all of success, they are a marker of, not a definer.

Ten years ago we struggled to finish in a league, we ended up being top 7 contenders for a while, with little to not real investment whilst others around us spunked millions trying to achieve what Everton did.

That for me is a miracle in itself, but does NOT excuse the previous management from error - I'm glad he is gone, and GLAD to have a replacement.

The connection between relegation and a cup winning season is simple to explain, but you seem intent on avoiding the obviois paradigm which hit wigan last year, for the years leading up to the ineveitable relegation Wigan where happy to be in the league, a small town club in a huge league - there are quotes from DW saying this, not my words.

Now.. the trophy 'success' in terms of their value, supporter base and holding was huge, to validate their existence if you want, but to be relegated? Nah, it wasn't no big thing. Why? cos it was inevitable.

You see? This is the link between a trophy win - and relegation, no i did not say they where linked, you did - the reason i am explaining this and gone to this much detail is because you seem to avoid the obvious parallel with winning a trophy ( finishing 7th ) and being relegated ( us ten years ago )

Anything else?

Fairly certain that he's suggesting that 2 very good performances in the cup don't override the fact that over 38 league games Wigan (& thus the players involved ) were shown to be not good enough collectively at the highest level

That on its own doesn't mean that these individuals in different surroundings couldn't succeed, but it also means that they're capable of failure

8.5mil spent so far isn't great imo for what we've got, however I am excited by Kone and Bill seems to be splashing the cash from the TV deal, so as long as it continues and Martinez gets who he wants.. who cares?

If we are going to analyse signings from Wigan can we actually analyse them and not Wigan overall:

Kone top scored for them and was impressive all round - decent player in a bad team
Alcaraz missed most of season injured but Wigan kept 6 clean sheets in 14 when he returned - easily their best defender
Robles eventually replaced Al Habsi and this, along with Alcaraz, coincided with improvement - young, learning, upside

Of course they aren't "world class" but they individually and collectively improve our squad. Most blues thought 2 things kept us from Europe last season. Weak depth and a lack of a reliable goalscorer. Even allowing for Mucha/Hitz/Pip gone we clearly have better quality depth. We can also expect RM to put more faith in Barkley and maybe others. Kone may or may not be the answer to our striker woes but competition often helps improve everyone and it won't hurt.

The fact is we are better today than at the end of the season. Not enough to automatically bridge the gap on teams above us who will spend more on bigger names but better.

Glass definitely filling...

Anyway, i'll join you in hoping for the best for this season. Thats all any of us want.

I am as happy as the next man that we have signed some players, but let's not start sucking Bill's end just yet.

I would still not be surprised (and neither would you I imagine) if both Baines and Fellaini were sold and just a couple more loans bought in..................would you?

I think I will wait until the end of August before making a final judgement on this window! Had my fingers burned far too many times previously.

The players we have signed are 'capable of failure'. Wow man, that is like, so deep. Seriously though, people have a go at others stating thebleedin obvious, but sometimes it has to be done.

Forget these players played for Wigan and focus on the talent they have which I think we will all see over the course of the season.

Kone will be influential in attack, bringing in players on the attack, creating and scoring goals.

Alcarez will be consistent when called upon and no doubt do the job he is asked to do.

Robles, we might not see a lot of him but he is potential and the only time he will get his chance is if Howard is on a poor run of form or injury for the time being. He will prove to be a good goalkeeper.

Roberto Martinez fills me with excitement and we can't judge anything based on the upcoming friendlies in my opinion, I would hate to see people on the managers back if we lose our games in the US tournament. I have a lot of confidence in him and I think this could prove to be a long, successful era.

Please everybody, have patience.

Kone and Robles are excellent signings.

I will say this which is something that hasnt been commented on, we now have some serious squad depth something that is needed if you want to have a bash at the CL places.

Just go with it and get yourself a sombrero.

I'm sorry but you have no clue what you are talking about. I can't stand the argument that just because people were part of a team that got relegated they are crap. Your ridiculous logic would follow that if a player you knew to be great before the season started got relegated then no matter how they performed they would be sh*te by the end of it. Why do you completely discount the fact that RM took Swansea from being a nothing club to setting them up to be comfortably mid table with little to no resources? I am not in turn discounting the fact that he got a club relegated but instead of thinking about RM's chances of prem table finish with Everton somehow you've made it that we are now Wigan and all the players that got us to the finish we had this year are now crap or will be under RM's tutelage. Every year teams pluck from relegated sides and they get players who will fit in, not necessarily top quality players but players that fulfill a role. You are trying to have your cake and eat it too as well in complaining about it all and then trying to absolve yourself of any backlash by saying 'O no I want us to do well its just that we wont cause we did this this and this'. Get ahold of yourself.

Just found out about Joel Robles and seeing the progress of the Delofeu loan which looks promising. Right now is exciting as fu*k to be a blue. Anyone that isn't needs their heads testing. We never had this under Moyes, going into a new season full of new enthusiasm. I cannot wait. Next season is going to be amazing.

Anyone with negative comments save it for the negative threads. This is strictly for my blues who are happy, excited and enthusiastic!

why are you happy fellaini is going? or baines?

Until that's happened, the board have spent money and that is good. Don't let your hatred cloud what so far has been a big spending summer for Everton. If we sell Baines to finance it then is the time to slate the board over this summe, whilst we are spending.. They are doing alright this season.

Please, show me where I have sucked Bill's end in my post?

MickM86 for one of the posters of the year. Ridiculed early on by some prestigious members but stood his ground and carried on.

Doffs cap.

Played Sir.
