I was watching a derby game in a bar in the algarve many years ago with my kids in their everton tops couple of other blue shirts but outnumbered by a dozen ****e shirts a couple of them were spouse though to be fair any the pub was rammed Michael Owen scored and the roof near come off the pub every Cnut was supporting them me and the kids walked the town and found a quite bar to watch us roll over we got dicked 3-0

Exact same for me - that game. We were in Ibiza and it was hell.

and there I am thinking, there's not too many over here.......... Jesus lads,we should have our own Ireland thread on here in the same vein as the Ipswich Town & Dundee United thread in the ale house !.

Haha. Was thinking this very thing mate. There's loads of us in Ireland. The Everton supporters club of Northern Ireland (ESCNI) has around 300-400 regular members on its own. Not to mention all the blues who aren't in it. Add that to the amount of blues throughout Ireland, and we are many.

We should all buy houses somewhere and create a blue utopia ;)

We're in the Irish Toffees, similar membership, great club, run coach trips over, player nights etc.

The lads running the club, are sound, can't do enough for you. The only boozer in Dublin where we outnumber the ****e is Murrays on OÇonnell St.

I'm a proud dubliner toffee who was born and raised in Dublin but spent the past 4 years in Limerick. I'm fortunate in that my brother and one of my best mates are massive Evertonians as well. Obviously the ratio of everton fans : any of the sky 4 in Ireland is abysmal though. What's worse is the ignorance of these irish "fans" who support these other clubs. Haven't a clue about the history of Liverpool's orange foundation for example (which I'm actually not arsed about in the slightest tbh and don't want this thread to start going into it please). They're just stupid people who haven't a clue. But in all honesty, Irish fans (as well as international fans outside of their club's home city/country) nearly always support their club based on success and success alone. Yes, everton have had huge successes, but European wise we're pretty hopeless compared to Man United and Liverpool. And also money talks. More money means more marketing which means more fans - simple as. Pure business. These are in the vast majority utterly plastic fans though. Now that i think about it actually, i haven't seen a united jersey in ages since they've gone to muck - and I love it!!

From my experience any Everton fan i meet in Dublin is totally passionate about the club and you can really feel that love for Everton that's just through and through and utterly immeasurable. Also, the bond you create with fellow Evertonians here is instantaneous. You're best mates before u even say hello! It's a wonderfully mad thing really.

With success looking like it could soon be on our way, and with a strong irish contingent playing at the club, it is likely more and more everton fans will emerge in ireland. Although in some ways this is a great thing, in other ways it could take away that instant Evertonian bond that exists here today that I've never once witnessed between any of those plastic fans riding on the manc / red****e bandwagon.

Right now, the saying "Evertonians are born not manufactured" is more applicable to us irish toffees than any other I believe. I mean, if you're from Liverpool, you are (usually) gonna support Everton or Liverpool cos they're ur home club. And when irish fans support any of the sky 4 it's based solely on success (man utd/liverpool) and/or marketing (man city/chelsea). Arsenal fit somewhere in the middle. But Everton in Ireland is different. Ok if u were a kid growing up in the 80s supporting everton was supporting success. But as a 25 year old who grew up watching everton from 94 onwards, apart from the FA cup, myself and any other irish person supporting everton growing up in the same era truly fit into the born not manufactured slogan. We went through hell supporting such garbage for years throughout our childhood and only recently have we started getting some reward for it! I think being able to go through such misery that was the 90s together stems the root of our immediate bond! Lets just hope with any future success this bond remains intact and never gets superseded by a potential bunch a plastic toffees in the future!

COYB!

Great stuff this.

yeah the harp was near parnell st, about 3 shops down from the end of parnell st. I think its the same joint alright...

As a 38 year old Irish blue I concur with the OP's senitment. I used to go to matches with the Irish supporters club many moons ago (Duncan I think was the guy who used to organised it) but it died away. Then I used to travel over to matches with a small band of dedicated blues and it was magic, really got me back into the buzz again. With kiddies etc its become a lot more difficult to get over as much but the passion for the club still burns.

You've know idea how much it means to me as an Irishman to see Seamus Coleman (big fan of the league of Ireland as well) bombing down the wing and smashing goals in, it brings me back to when Kevin Sheedy was my hero. Got to meet him before a real gent, very humble about his achievements.

There are Evertonians in Ireland to be found.

Try living in Norway mate. I'm yet to see an Everton fan "in the open", and I see people wearing Liverpool merchandise daily.

The Americans and Canadians feel this acutely. Not only have their had the good sense to shun the popular clubs supported by fairweather bells over there but they are often isolated not only a long distance from Everton itself but from another Evertonian. I feel sorry for them. I've met some boss blues in North America by having an Everton logo on something I've worn and they've excitedly stalked me because its a rarity.

I've lived (EVERYWHERE LAD) in some obscure places where I've not seen another blue for the year. I once drove five hours to watch Everton on TV too.

So much this. Strangely though, people are almost intrigued when they learn I support Everton. You just don't see it much around these parts.

I have never met another true evertonian. i live in australia a few hours north of brisbane and would do anything just to chat to a fellow evertonian.
