I'm a lonely island in Dublin

I quite often see people wearing Everton merchandising around Wexford (though I have to say more commonly t-shirts and polo-necks with a crest on rather than replicas).

Mind you if a supporters forums spell check doesn't recognise Everton, not sure we can expect anyone else too :)

I'm not arsed there's not too many EFC fans. I generally find that fans of teams other than MU,LFC & Chelski know quite a lot about football. The supporters of the other 3 are usually dense. Strange as it may seem I know fans of Wolves, WBA, Derby and Leicester. The largest fan base outside of the three mentioned is, curiously enough, Leeds United.

Everyone likes to back a winner and over the last decade it has always been Man U, Chelsea, Aresenal and Liverpool, lately of course it is Man C. If Everton had been a winner in that period there would have a similar following. It is all a matter of belonging to the winning tribe.

Tiocfaidh ár lá . . . lad

Politics free zone lad.

I feel your pain though mate. Surrounded by RS and Man U up here myself. Most of my mates are split between the two, but I have a good group of mates that are blues. There's quite a few of us up here, but we are still well outnumbered by RS and Man U.

Ha, I should explain I always use the 'our day will come' shout in Irish about Everton when bantering with my mates. I am not a nationalist nor the other side but as ya said it's a politics free zone and dam right. One thing I hate about being surrounded by Irish pool and united fans is when they try to talk Everton to you they are basically telling you what they have read in the back of the papers. You try and retort with great insightful Everton knowledge and ya get a blank stare as if they have short circuited.

Great thread , I am from the west of Ireland ( Co. Mayo) and there are lots of Toffee men in my town with the connection from emigration from Mayo especially to Liverpool in the 50's and 60's leading to alot of people becoming blues due to uncle's and cousins who spent time in Liverpool working. In my class in school there were 5 other Evertonians but this was a bit higher than the norm. Man U and the sh*te were the the main suported teams but Everton , Villa and Spurs would have been the next best supported. My Uncle told me that prior to Steve Highway playing a pool supporter was as rare as hen's teeth anywhere in Ireland but the success of the 70's and 80's along with players like Whelan/Houghton/Aldrige their numbers balooned. I have to say though in my town the next generation of Toffee's is holding up well and with our economy back to where it seems to settle eternally the old ties will only strengthen!! P.S a lot of brillant Irish sportsmen from other codes seem to be Toffee's e.g. Munster , Ireland and Lions captain Paul O' Connell being one.

I was watching a derby game in a bar in the algarve many years ago with my kids in their everton tops couple of other blue shirts but outnumbered by a dozen ****e shirts a couple of them were spouse though to be fair any the pub was rammed Michael Owen scored and the roof near come off the pub every Cnut was supporting them me and the kids walked the town and found a quite bar to watch us roll over we got dicked 3-0

I think I was at that, Ferguson came of bench and hit the bar with a free kick if i'm not mistaking.

My dad (from Co. Kerry) and his fellow hordes from Ireland that landed in Liverpool in the late 50s/early 60s all supported Everton rather than the RS (or so he and his mates say). Not sure how accurate that is relative to the wider matchday crowds but they certainly seem clear.

Haha. No bother spud. It is quite apt when applied to Everton ;)

"Plastic" is a spot on description for them. Deluded too. There's very few of them you can have a decent football conversation. They either haven't a clue, or once you get deeper than what they've been spoon fed in the media recently they are stumped. Ultimately the conversation goes back to how good their team is.

Now occasionally (very occasionally) you get a RS or Man U fan that can actually carry a conversation about football, without eventually talking dung. These I always remember and actively seek out to chat about whats going on at their clubs.

Shame they are as rare as rocking horse s**t.

Ya, it's actually a bit refreshing when you find one that is a genuine football fan who doesn't speak through their own rectum.

and there I am thinking, there's not too many over here.......... Jesus lads,we should have our own Ireland thread on here in the same vein as the Ipswich Town & Dundee United thread in the ale house !.

With Seamus et al the number of Irish Blues is only going to increase as well!
