I'm a lonely island in Dublin

When I'm not going over for the match I usually try to go to Murray's on O'Connell St. for that match. You'll usually get a good number of Irish Toffees in there. I think it's technically an Aston Villa supporters bar but it's the one place where you won't be out numbered completely by Liverpool and United jerseys.

Watched the United game in there... that was a lot of fun ;)

I don't understand it.
There are three main sports shop franchises in Ireland.
Surely it wouldn't be hard to do a deal to sell Everton (NIKE!!!!!) strips in these shops?

these shops have kits from the other top 7/8 clubs, plus any amount of barca, juve, bayern kits. Any amount of international kits with the world cup coming up, but no Everton kits??

Everton or Nike can't do that deal. Everton have sold the kit sales rights to Kitbag and they don't do other shops than Everton One/Two and online.

Go back to the 50s and 60s and Everton were the best supported club in Ireland. A result of the Irish contingent playing at GP. As football became increasingly commercial and particularly in the PL era it was our misfortune that, mid 80s apart, we were unsuccessful (and, lets face it, in the mid-80s football had lost alot of its appeal for various reasons, including hooliganism). So we missed out and are still paying the price. The RS on the other hand managed to become one of the media favourites. Even this was on the wane though before the fluke of Istanbul. The nature of that win rekindled the media and created thousands of new supporters nationally and worldwide. I use the word 'supporters'. I think another label is needed, because, whilst commercially important from the merchandising and PR perspective, these groups are not by any stretch of the imagine supporters in the sense we use the word. 'Followers' perhaps.

The Americans and Canadians feel this acutely. Not only have their had the good sense to shun the popular clubs supported by fairweather bells over there but they are often isolated not only a long distance from Everton itself but from another Evertonian. I feel sorry for them. I've met some boss blues in North America by having an Everton logo on something I've worn and they've excitedly stalked me because its a rarity.

I've lived (EVERYWHERE LAD) in some obscure places where I've not seen another blue for the year. I once drove five hours to watch Everton on TV too.

Defo this.

Thanks Chico lad for recognizing what we go through on this side of the pond. I'm sure the Aussie lads go through the same. For me, waking up at stupid o' clock to watch the pregame/game is worth it...my mates don't get it. I mean, I have a DVR, and could just watch at my leisure, but it's just not the same. I'm sure my neighbors think they have a madman living next door.

I went there all the time during the Moyes europa cup days. It died down after them days and it's hard to get people to head in with me. I just stream matches or go the local if we are on the telly.

Living outside Dublin (Slane, county Meath) and I have to say there are a few blues in my area and neighbouring towns (Drogheda, Navan, Ashbourne..) with a group of about 15 of us that meet up for the games. The RS or any of the rest don't say a whole lot to us when we're out which is nice because if theres one thing I hate it is a kopites perspective on football. Melts. Been to Murray's on O' Connell St once or twice before, lively enough spot for blues

Great thread, I feel exactly the same way, I'm from clare, have been blue from birth , due to my EvertonIan father, and I have to say, I wouldn't swap being an Evertonian for all of Liverpool and man u trophies put together. . I have 5 good mates and we are all blues who go to games regularly., and I have to agree meeting other blues over here , u instantly know they are going to be the most passionate and knowledgeable supporters around, and u instantly have a bond with them, those last day relegation scraps in the nineties, were as good as winning the league for me at the time, my United mates wouldn't even know who they would be playing of a Saturday, whereas I would know everything about Everton. They're joy at winning league after league just seemed a bit fake to me. Give me a last day relegation scrap anyday, if thats what winning the league meant . The 95 cup final was the happiest day of my life. . Don't know what I'd do without Everton really
