2025/26 Iliman Ndiaye

How many years of large negative net spends before we do have to sell one of our saleable assets though? (We only have 2 realistically)
Ideally we get better at selling the players who still have some value but aren't necessarily our best players. This year the likes of Mykolenko, O'Brien, McNeil, Iroegbunam, one of the strikers, Alcaraz etc fall into that category and obviously it will change over time. I'm not saying we should sell all of them (or any in particular) obviously, but you can create a bit of wriggle room by offloading that type of player without always needing to sell your main men.

Oh of course you can make wriggle room but historically we’ve not been amazing shifting average players. McNeil last Jan for £20m would have been class, never getting that sum again for him.

Just all clubs need to be selling clubs. All clubs but the very, very biggest have to sell their best players at some point.

Even the very biggest sell their best players when they reach a certain point/age, or a good enough offer comes in. CR7 left Madrid, Lewa - Bayern, etc.

Mate 100m.

It's just a figure to demonstrate everyone has a price.

We'd do well to remember though that this clubs recruitment has been very poor. You're saying you'd take £50m for him - I've little confidence in our ability to replace Ndiaye at £50m. We spent more than that on Dibling+Aznou.

The people we have in place put great emphasis on PL experience and it's a market where Omari Hutchinson goes for around £40m. Johnson went to Palace for £35m an wasn't it £20m+ "agreed" with Palace for Dwight McNeil?

If the rumours are correct it won't be much more than 50m, Bowen would replace him for around the same 50m.

It's a rumour for Gods sakes.
Its a rumour that is growing legs too sadly. I struggled most of lat season motivating myself to trudge to the match to watch the gash we were being served up. illy was the one little sparkle that lightened the dreariness. If he goes, next season will be the chore to end all chores.

The irony here is that there's a world where selling a player for £50m and buying those two with the proceeds would actually turn out to be good business. Just not yet and not in the situation we find ourselves in (without getting into the debate about the detail of it)

Yeah exactly, it's something we've not been good at but it can be done and that type of deal for McNeil goes a long way to making it a sustainable model if you can manage it. Clubs like us will always have to sell at some point if the players become unhappy or the really big fish come knocking, but we don't necessarily have to actively look to sell our best players - as we have in the past - if we get better at turning over the middle of the road players.
