Kante is two years younger than him and went for £32 million (admittedly a couple of years ago), so £20 million for Gueye seems an appropriate price. Spend the money on permaGomes

The problem with that is it doesn't actually make us any better, because we've already got Gomes. So basically we just lose a key player (whether you rate him or not, he is unarguably a key player because he plays virtually every minute of every game he's available for) and get no money for him. We have to hope that the money for Gomes is already ringfenced and any sale of Gana could finance a replacement.Kante is two years younger than him and went for £32 million (admittedly a couple of years ago), so £20 million for Gueye seems an appropriate price. Wait, so his main attributes are winning back the ball, and he has about the highest pass % on our team. How is he BAD in possession?
This also just in - Silva does not care that much about possession. I'm sure he would like - as would Brands - better passers. No question.
But good luck replacing this guy or shall I say Gueye.
Here's my favorite part about this logic - PSG want him. Any replacement we can find, well, PSG could've bought them too, but they didn't.
I'll tell you what - you want to upgrade from Gana? Cool. Throw a 60M bid at Chelsea for Kante. He's clearly playing out of position on the right, Sarri is pushing for winger after winger, he LOVES Jorginho, see what they say. THAT would be ambitious. THAT would be a game changer.

Ha ha deal! They must have a decent player or two they could offer us.Neymar?
If you look at Silva's set up at Watford he mainly played a flat midfield three or two proper holders/box to box and one pushing on a bit. Maybe he wants to restructure the whole midfield. Gana is very good at pressing and breaking up the play we have nobody else like him. But say you sold him and invested in two new midfielders who fit the system alongside Gomes? We might end up actually stronger in there. Currently it's all a bit fragmented with Gana expected to do most of the covering and shielding and the other two go forward mainly. I can see us going for one DM and one box to box if Gana goes. So you end up with a two or three capable of going both ways. You end up then with more threat with the ball and more of a spread of responsibility without it.Selling Gana is a weird one because we are UTTERLY reliant on him right now, but the signs point to Silva not wanting that to be the case long-term - so does he have the cojones to make that change in playstyle midway through the season? It needs to happen at some point but it's a big call on if we get an offer for him that we'll never get again. There are lots of players knocking around who fulfil the role of being younger + nearly as good defensively + much better at moving the ball forward from deep, who should be somewhat attainable:
Ascacibar
Lobotka
Diawara
Sangare
Bissouma
+ I reckon Anguissa from Fulham is just a victim of being in a mess of a team
But as above it's a biiiiig call doing that mid-season when we fall apart without him right now.
Edit: he basically IS our defensive gameplan.
Fair enough. I'm a sarcastic poster generally, it's just an attempt to be humorous not nasty but obviously it can be offensive so apologies.I'm not completely incapable of understanding anything (the odd typo aside). I just believe it's a fallacy to suggest that the reason we lost against Spurs and City, 2 of the best teams in the league, if not Europe, is because a player who time and again has been underpar against lesser teams, didn't play.
As far as different skillets for different situations go, having a player with a skillet that doesn't undermine us in 2/3's of our games in a season would be a start.
Leaving it there is probably a good idea though. Your overinflated sense of self importance means you will never have any reasonable discussion on the matter anyway.
That was Kantes buyout clause
