2018/19 Idrissa Gueye

Wait, so his main attributes are winning back the ball, and he has about the highest pass % on our team. How is he BAD in possession?

This also just in - Silva does not care that much about possession. I'm sure he would like - as would Brands - better passers. No question.

But good luck replacing this guy or shall I say Gueye.

Here's my favorite part about this logic - PSG want him. Any replacement we can find, well, PSG could've bought them too, but they didn't.

I'll tell you what - you want to upgrade from Gana? Cool. Throw a 60M bid at Chelsea for Kante. He's clearly playing out of position on the right, Sarri is pushing for winger after winger, he LOVES Jorginho, see what they say. THAT would be ambitious. THAT would be a game changer.

I’m condescending online but you’re like a whole other level.

Id be made up about this sale.

Forget that its Gana going (it could be one of a dozen) and look at the opportunity we have for Brands and Silva to bring in a player who suits Silvas desired formation.

You cant slate the manager then want to prevent him from playing the way he favours.

Why not? This season is basically a write-off anyway. Say he gets an injury and we miss out on some big money for a player who’s value is only going to decrease.

Sell while the price is high (if an offer is even made).

This is key for me, as much as I rate Gana, we wont ever get a chance again to get so much money.

If Brands could replace him with a player better suited to Silvas system, then we should probably sell.

But only if we have a top class replacement, which I doubt we could easily get.

As always, In Brands We Trust.

Hang on, won't you want Silva out if we don't finish in the EL spots?

If we pulled a rabbit out of the hat, sound. There'd still be some iffy period if it's a player coming in from abroad, like, but if they're good enough, they'll manage.

The issue, like you say, is it's just not likely.

Not for me to try and persuade you to rate him Tim but are you happy as a fan to sanction his sale when you have no idea who, if anyone, we have lined up to replace him for the rest of the season?

What if we can't get anyone? we'd be left with Davies, Schneiderlin, Beni and Gomes.

Seems high risk. Effectively you'd be happy to write off the season and with it any justification for criticising Silva? We can't win the games if we have no-one to win the ball for us.

Of course I think we would need a replacement. But I don't think it's conceivable we will sell without someone lined up.

When you see people saying "replace him with Dacoueuuruuure", you just know they dont have a jar of glue.

Maybe people would appreciate him more if we had a more creative midfielder alongside him in midfield, or if the formation was changed to a 4-3-3, or a 5-3-2. But neither of those two systems would suit the likes of Richarlison, Bernard, Lookman or Walcott. A central midfield of Gomes, Gueye and somebody creative and attacking who gets more involved in the game over 90 minutes than Sigurdsson would be mint, imo, even though I am happy with Sig's return this season.

Digne is first name on the team sheet so it's either 4 at the back or 5 with him as a wing back.

Maybe 4-5-1 (or call it a 4-1-2-2-1, or a 4-3-2-1, or simply the same formation as we use now with a replacement for Sigurdsson a bit deeper) might be the way to go for us, like this:

Pickford / Digne Zouma Mina Coleman / Richarlison Gomes Gueye New Midfielder Bernard / New Striker. That would be a pretty flexible system.

Not that arsed if Sigurdsson is a first team regular next season tbh.

That said, maybe it'll all be taken out of our hands if Gueye puts in a transfer request, and Zouma and Gomes don't end up Everton players in 6 months.

Gana's been Walsh's best buy (not hard admittedly). For a minimal investment he's brought energy and an ability to break up play and win the ball back that few in the Prem can rival. That's why a top club apparently wants him despite his limitations in posession.
He'll be extremely difficult for us to replace however given he'll be 30 in September and one of the world's richest clubs want him now Brands must take the opportunity, if there, to secure a financial windfall before Gana's value plummets as it surely will by this time next year.

what what system would you play?

4-4-2, 4-3-3, 4-2-4, 4-2-2-2, 4-1-3-2.. any system that hasn't been tainted by 3 years of dry, loveless toiling.

As a personal preference I would like to see a minimum of two forwards starting the match and for them to be within 20 yards of each at some point during the game.. just as it may prove more exciting to watch-..and if we are going to go down, we should go down swinging!
