Howard Kendall RIP

My Dad was in Bilbao last weekend on a northern soul do. Loads of them go from Teesside (my Dads a Boro fan) once a year. Today is the first time I've seen him since he came back so I mention about Kendall passing on Saturday and he had no idea. He told me he got talking to a few locals in Bilbao about football and they started talking about Kendall and how much respect and admiration they had for him. Turns out they hadn't heard the news either. My Dad was a bit taken back when I told him the news.

Some brilliant artwork on the advertising boards alongside Goodison of Kendall.

Indeed, especially the second bit.

Although, back on topic and happy days, i remember having a conversation once with Reidy about that sending off once.

Me: "Reidy do you reckon you'd have scored if you hadn't been pulled back?"
Reidy: "I was glad of the breather to be honest"
Howard (not hearing Reidy's reply properly): "Give over Reidy there was a steward walking down the side of the pitch faster than you were going"

Thanks mate. First time i've seen that for 30 years since being there. For all these years (and I don't know why) but i thought he was pulled back rather than decapitated! Looking at it again its true what he said though he did stay down for ages cos he needed a breather! And having seen it 30 years on i'm not sure it was a straight Red was it after all?

Think the red was harsh, and as often happens, because it was harsh it galvanised United. If only Reidy had managed to poke it through to Sharpy to his right!

Still was a great few days, the Rotterdam trip will stay with me for ever!

Was just a year or two too young to go to Rotterdam at the time. Had to wait until 1995 when we got back in and played Feyenoord away.

I did not think it was harsh. If not fouled Reidy would have been through and then able to pass. The foul was a professional to take the player out, no attempt on the ball.
