I cba about being beaten today, some things are more important. Losing Howie is like losing a little bit of myself forever, he was one of us, he gave us joy, he was a gentleman and he loved the team I love. The world has lost a little bit of colour tbh........
Word perfect mate, I've been in a bit of a daze today, the game was irrelevant, When I was a young lad, Kendall was part of the holy trinity, one of the greatest players to pull on a blue jersey, as a young man in my twenties, he led us to glories I'd never experienced before or since. 99% of my fondest Everton memories involve Howard Kendall. I'm absolutely gutted, RIP Howard.

What an awful, awful day.
Howard Kendall was not just the greatest Everton manager, he was the greatest manager full stop.
But for the horrors of Heysel who knows just what legacy he would have built. The european ban resulting in the break up of the finest team this country has ever produced.

I couldn't watch MOTD. Too much heartache recently and the thought of being transportedback to the mid 80's, watching that great side with my dad and older brother is too soon. My dad is too ill to leave the house now.

Missed out on the glory years but will never forget going to sheff United on his return, all game singing howie is back howie is back all through the game.. Rip a true great

It's been an absolutely terrible day for us today. After hearing of his death I had a deep feeling we'd lose today as well. Not like it was a personal thing for the players or anything I just think it set a cloud over the club on the day.

Anyway I might be wide of the mark here but was he involved in a video of what got widely accepted as our song for the fa cup final under Moyes?

This is the song

I might be wrong but vague memory pictures when that first come out there were a group singing it with him in a pub. If it exists and anyone can find it id love to see it.

Gutted like everyone else. A true Everton great, easily one of the top five in our illustrious history.
A few random Howard Kendall memories.
Never playing for England, scandalous although it was mainly an arsenal player peter storey who was picked ahead of him. Storey's Wikipedia page makes interesting reading! His membership of the Holy Trinity....quiiet but very influential.
His goal against Chelsea mentioned above after 14 seconds vs Chelsea to put us on brink of winning the league.
An amazing "slide tackler". Could time it to perfection hitting the ground 2/3 steps from the player and whipping the ball right from his feet.
Him almost single-handedly keeping us up when we were dire in season 1972-73. His reward ... Echo personality of the year winner then sold next season in the Bob latchford deal!
(Found out today from a WBA mate at work that HK was his dad's favourite player from his time at Birmingham City. I think he saved them from relegation too and helped get them to a cup semi final?)
His time as manager of Blackburn and his slightly cautious approach as a manager there which reflected his early days as a manager with us.
West Ham away in FA cup 3rd round when he played as player manager. We lost 2-1 and he was our best player by a mile! I thought to myself omg how can he still be our best player!!!
The Kendall out campaign 1983, early 84. Like a family feud, terrible.
FA cup 3rd round January 1984 Stoke away..... THAT team talk. Proof if ever it was needed that he got Everton and the relationship with the fans.
The look on his face when Ratcliffe lifted the cup at Wembley May 1984....pride like a parent feels for his child.... I had some dust in my eye at that moment!
The absolute excellence of that mid eighties team.
The Bayern Munich half time team talk.
The fuss he made of the recently married Madame Allezlesbleus when we took a detour from our honeymoon to the pre season tournament in 1984 at Servette, Geneva.
The bittersweet moments when he left us for athletic Bilbao, not Barcelona.
Buying Lineker which broke up Sharp and Gray with Heath then down the pecking order. "Strengthen when at the top" showed how canny he had become as a manager.
Selling Lineker when arguably best attacker in the world.
His returns when we needed him.
The pain of the dark days of the 1997-98 season.
His dignity when interviewed by football focus about the risk of going down and any regrets about coming back.....his answer"it is a privilege and honour to manage this club" or words to that effect.
Keeping us up when being starved of support by Peter Johnson. The look on his face when Farrelly scored vs Coventry and at the end of the game.
Him thanking me for for my support when I met him randomly in the street outside Goodison and I thanked him for what he had done for Everton.
His attention to detail when I watched them train once, rollicking players for being 5 yards out of position OT set play practice.
Thanks for everything Howard, a truly great Evertonian.

Brilliant post mate. Absolutely brilliant post.

RIP Howard Kendall. First FA Cup Final I ever watched was the PNE game in 64. A bit like Bally, played for a number of decent clubs but none of the others really counted, he was an Evertonian...end of.
I met and chatted to him briefly when my lad was the Everton mascot against my own Palace in 1998. The overriding impression I had of him on that day was just how much he was enjoying himself. As well as a great Blue he was a great Football man. Commiserations to all his family and friends, all Evertonians and all lovers of the beautiful game. Thanks Howard.

Today has been just dreadful, couldn't bring myself to watch the match tonight, perhaps tomorrow, had a couple of pints on Howard.Read some great things from all walks of football on our man,on this forum and elsewhere,Colin Harvey and Joe Royal clearly upset allowed me to understand my sadness, and that it's allowed.
Will wake up in the morning, please god,but it will be just a slightly less happy place for us blues. Thanks Howard, legend is banded about too often at these sad times ,but without doubt ,you are.

A fitting tribute.

Rovers fan here. Condolences to Howards family, friends and Evertonians.
We loved him for the 2 great seasons we had him. Rovers were a dying old Lancashire club when Howard took over. Near bottom of the 3rd division. He got us promoted and very nearly promoted again to the old 1st division. I for one will never forget promotion night at Gigg Lane. The old wooden stands were swaying that night. Howard and the team celebrating on the pitch with the fans. Howard gave us our pride back.
He was and always will be loved at Ewood.

A fitting tribute.
All right lads, only just heard this news.

Absolutely gutted. When I seen the news I was instantly taken back to the 80`s. I remember a time when Howard built one the greatest sides I`ve seen and one of the best periods of football rivalry I`ve been through as a red. Southall, Ratcliffe, Reid, Sheedy, Gray, Sharp, great players (some of them would be considered world class in todays game). I remember Sharps screamer at the Kop end, the 86 cup final, Everton winning the league, a great period in the top flight for this city.

Rest in Peace Howard.
